Okay...so I read all about Decos and it sounds so cool. Then I read swaps for them and they say swapping established books, send to 3 partners or send 5-yikes!! What about those of us newbies that would like to try a Deco book, but are new to making them and don't have a stash of them to send? What if we are scared to start, afraid we will let down an established partner? Well, here's a chance for us to start!

For this swap, you will make 1 Deco book and send it to 1 partner. (Partners, please try and send the Deco on after you decorate your page so it doesn't just sit and collect dust. If you would like to be considered for getting books after we get going, place a comment in the comment section, stating that you would like to help keep these on the move so others in the swap can contact you). The Deco theme is up to the maker. Easy right? Established Deco swappers are welcome, just understand you will likely get a partner that is brand new at this type of swap. Be gentle ;)

Please everyone, rate according to time invested and the courage to try something new, not just what you like or don't like, remember each of us is making a book that will eventually end up back with its creator.

Here is the glossary description of a Deco and Friendship book-

Decos – A deco is similar to a friendship book and there are a wide variety of types. It is a bound book of pages which are sent around the world. The person that the book is “for” is usually listed on the cover and when the book becomes full it is sent back to them. Each person that receives and signs the deco will decorate one page according to the theme of the booklet (if there is one) and put their postal/email address and sign their name. Typically, each entrant in the “deco” must use one full page to express themselves. Glitter, sequins, feathers and other scrapbooking supplies are frequently used in “decos.” Despite the artistic expressions used in these types of friendship books, the basic rules of passing the friendship book to person to person is the same.

Friendship Book (FB) - A booklet that is passed via the mail from person to person. It includes addresses of all the signers and is intended for the recipient to find new penpals and/or swap partners. It is generally made of a few pages of paper (any size, but usually made to fit in a standard size envelope) stapled together. The cover or front page includes who made the booklet (complete with name and address) and who the booklet was made for (complete with name and address). The rest of the booklet is reserved for the “signers.” The person who signs the last available space then sends the booklet back home to the person the booklet was made for.

I hope this sounds like fun and we get a new group of Deco makers! Please try and make your book as creative as you can and remember, it will be back to you in the future, so it is a good idea to make it beautiful and durable. Don't forget your address in the front or the address of who you would like it sent to when it is done. Please make your theme easy to understand or send a note to your partner with your Deco. Any other questions, please PM me. For swappers of 4.9 or higher rating and no recent 1's or 3's. Newbies welcome!

I have given lots of time to make this swap, so you can have the time to learn, invest into your Deco, and still enjoy the holidays!

Can someone help me understand a DECO book? I read it and don't understand it at all!! Please help me!!

Cyndimom 10/12/2011 #

hartline22-try typing it into youtube.com-how to make a deco-other wise-you basically pick a theme, decorate the front of your book for that theme, send it to your partner, then they will decorate a page in your theme and then send it to the next person-they decorate and so on until it is full-then it is returned to you. Does that help?

piglet59645 10/12/2011 #

Do you have to be a first timer, or can you join and lend a hand with questions?

piglet59645 10/12/2011 #

I guess I meant, can you join even if you are not new at doing decos?

piglet59645 10/12/2011 #

hartline22, if you want to pm me, I will be willing to mail you a deco so that you can see what they are all about, and you could do a page and send it back to me. If you like papercrafts or scrapbooking type art, and you are into mailing things, you will like decos. :)

I would love to have an experienced deco maker in this swap-is that a phrase? I mentioned it in the description, that as long as you don't mind receiving from an amateur, then welcome aboard. I have been wanting to get into these for awhile, but to afraid I would disappoint someone because I wouldn't know what they expected. I love papercrafts, scrapbooking, ATC's and themes-so it seems so fun!

piglet59645 10/13/2011 #

Don't think anyone can disapoint me. Lol I am not so perf. I just love the hobby. I'm in. :) Thanks!

piglet59645 10/13/2011 #

Sorry I did not absorb that answer from reading before asking . I see it now. haha

Ryleighsmom 10/14/2011 #

I've been doing decos for years. Also, piglet59645 and I have been swapping for eons. lol I'd love to be a part!

maciemcgowan 10/14/2011 #

are there size requirements?

Cyndimom 10/14/2011 #

No size requirements, but I would ask the seasoned Deco makers what works best :)

piglet59645 10/15/2011 #

I just like them small enough that you do not have to purchase oversized envies just to move em along. lol Most are card size.

piglet59645 10/15/2011 #

I will help keep them going. :)

Cyndimom 10/18/2011 #

I am also willing to keep them moving :)

piglet59645 10/18/2011 #

courtmm11 and Ryleighsmom are great at swapping them on as well. :)

institches 10/20/2011 #

I'm watching for now, but will join closer to the date. I'm willing to take any decos that need to be moved and willing to pass them on to others too. Not enough deco swappers out there!

Marti 10/25/2011 #

I too, have no idea what a Deco is and have asked a few girls on Facebook if they could send me one just to see what it looks like... no such luck. Oh well. Now I see this swap and I think I want to try it out... I'm excited!! Right now, I just enjoy receiving label bags as an excuse to make others N&N FBs!!! Love it!! :))

Marti 10/25/2011 #

Ooops, one question... how many pages is common for a Deco?

piglet59645 10/26/2011 #

You use both sides.......so three or 4 ...maybe... They get pretty thick sometimes if there are too many pages....

incorrigible 10/27/2011 #

Oh, I'm so excited. I just made a little deco tonight with my daughter, to experiment with a new craft. It's really cute, I think...but I wasn't sure if my first attempt would be good enough for any of the swaps here. So many of them seem to have expectations well above my crafting abilities! lol It feels a lot safer to send something out in this swap. Thanks for hosting it!

piglet59645 10/28/2011 #

@incorrigible ........I really do not think that all decos are for top notch artists. :) I would imagine you did fine.

StarMouse 10/29/2011 #

I'm StarMouse, and I am also willing to keep them moving. Private message me on Swap-bot for my address. The key ingredient in any artwork is that you have FUN doing it. Tell your critical Left Brain to sit down and be quiet, that your Right Brain is playing!

incorrigible 10/30/2011 #

@piglet59645 Part of me thinks that too...but part of me is going to wait and see how my partner for this swap responds before I go and make any more decos. ;)

joyceann888 10/31/2011 #

I'm willing to keep them moving, too.

Gea 11/ 2/2011 #

I'd be happy to receive other decos, add to them, and pass along. Message me for addy.

joyceann888 11/ 3/2011 #

I'd love to help keep them moving, too!

renmagpie 11/ 4/2011 #

I'll help keep them going along as well. : )

Cyndimom 11/14/2011 #

I have 2 daughters one-14 and one-17 that have made some decos, these are ones they want to be worthy to put on a shelf with their collections. Would anyone be interested in doing any of these decos since they are not officially old enough to swap them on swapbot-Hawaii, Paris, Michael Jackson, Tinkerbell and/or movie night. Please let me know ;)
