Several years ago I made and distributed over 100 handmade rag dolls. I still have a dozen or so of them in a bin in the closet sitting and waiting for a new home. i've always enjoyed receiving dolls and in the last few years have realized that I have a small angel collection started. Figurines and charms. This swap is for those creative geniuses out there who love rag dolls. Here are the requirements: 1 soft bodied, rag doll to 1 partner Must be 100% handmade/sewn, sewing machines are ok but no pre-stuffed bodies. The doll must have angel qualities - subject to creator interpretation. Size between 6" and 24". This swap encourages reusing materials, recycling and repurposing. I used a standard doll body pattern on mine and will also review my partners profile prior to completing it. Who wants to join me? I'm giving you a full month for creativity. Note: This is an international swap and I will be carefully reading profiles and including only reputable swappers.

Can we use felt, or are we specifially looking to use cotton-based materials? This sounds so sweet, I've never made a rag doll before :)

Felt would be fine. I have used cotton, linen, upholstery fabric and velvet on past doll bodies. I used primarily cotton for the clothes and in the past my dolls wore either pajamas or a dress with my logo on it.

Also - yarn works beautifully for hair and you can braid, twist and arrange it when it's sewn onto the body. :)

I have traditionally ignored "typical" doll colors. My dolls range from knit white, repurposed sheets, flannel (pink and blue and stripes), upholstery fabric patterns and cotton prints. Fleece isn't great but is acceptable.

My colors ranged from olive to garden prints...and everything in between.

Get creative and remember to keep it classy!!

never made a ragdoll before, but I love a challenge, thanks for all the links, this should be fun. My mother's a dressmaker and has a hundred different fabrics, so I'm going to go steal something :)
