C+P Rolo: Introduction

Time to see what all the altered Rolodex card hubbub is about. Who can resist a piece of collectible art that comes in a nifty display case? Not me.

We will be creating one altered Rolodex card for one partner using collage techniques. The theme will be YOU - alter your card to tell your partner something about yourself. Where you're from, what you like to do outside of arts & crafts, your cultural heritage ~ pick one thing about yourself and run with it!

The Rules

• Rolodex cards come in a few sizes and the most common seem to be 2¼"x4" and 2⅝"x4". You may choose to use any of the regular available sizes, as long as your card fits in a standard Rolodex.

• Decorate the front of the card to suite the theme and lightly decorate the back (at the least). You should also include your info on the back: your name & screen name, month/year...some people like to put their addresses, but this is not required.

• If you have a preference for how your cards are oriented, please say so in the comments below. Cards for a flat Rolodex are oriented the same front and back (with the notches at the bottom). With the rotary Rolodex, the back of the card is flipped (leaving the notches at the top). You can always decorate the back so that it looks good from either direction to cover either style of Rolodex.

• You do not have to start with an actual Rolodex card. If you choose to cut out your own card, just be sure that it matches up with a standard card and that the notches will fit a Rolodex.

• Make your card sturdy before decking it out. Double up cards or layer with card stock or heavier weight paper.

• Other mediums in addition to the paper collage are welcome: ink, paint, gesso, fibers, etc.

• Tell your partner about the meaning behind your card by including a short note with it.
