Description:

Ok.. so I've been talking to other members and at some point, it was mentioned that I could create my own beginner craft swap. I've been swapping for quite some time now, but I haven't really ventured into the crafting side yet, and I'd like to.. but I wouldn't want to join a crafting swap only to have my partner be totally disappointed with what I've created due to my lack of experience.. and I'm sure there are others on here who are feeling the same.

If you're not new to crafting, feel free to join, but be aware that your partner may not be up to the same degree that you are ;)

So, this one should hopefully be easy. You're going to create three inchies. An inchie is literally a piece of art that is one inch by one inch in size. You can use any medium you like, cardstock, felt, paper, cardboard, glass, you name it.. and be as creative as you like.

I'm not theming this one, I figure for first timers, they can do what they like :)

You'll have 2 weeks to make them and send them!

  • 2 weeks
  • 3 inchies, 1 partner
  • beginner level

Have fun! :)

Thank you for doing this! I am a crafter, but never tried inchies...I have wanted to. This is the perfect no-stress motivator to get me rolling!!

agirlnamedfriday 03/14/2012 #

@barefootnboots , no problem! I'm totally new at this stuff and I'm sure others are too. It's good to know I'm not the only one :)

Artstamper 03/14/2012 #

It's a very good idea to only require one inchie for each partner. Too many can be overwhelming!

zibbity 03/14/2012 #

I was asking on another swap if it would be ok to do digiscrapped inchies, printed on good quality paper. Anyone here have an opinion? Watching until it's answered.

twobluecrows 03/14/2012 #

Personally, I don't mind digital art on anything like inchies, ATCs etc, as long as they are good quality, and printed on good solid cardstock (ar attached to it well). I've done lots of little photo inchies in the past, and they are nice to use as embellishments on ATCs and other mixed media pieces. I usually make them a tad small, and mount them on 1" squares of black 110lb card stock.

One inchie hardly seems worth the postage to mail, though. I'm watching for now, waiting for the "official stance on digital art inchies.

Gofeen 03/14/2012 #

It's a nice idea but I kinda think the same as @twobluecrows I lot of postage for one inchie but might still join. Watching for now.

agirlnamedfriday 03/14/2012 #

If enough people want, I could change it to 3 per partner. I don't want to have it be too much for someone who isnt sure what they are doing... and as for the digital art.. I guess it's ok as long as it's not the entire inchie.

I totally understand the cost per postage versus size of package responses I've read. Personally I have to say, the cost of postage is a small price knowing that I definitely wouldn't join if to many inchies were expected. I've never done one before either and love the idea of this beginner swap. But needing to make to many the first time would just make me anxious and ruin all the fun. I am much more comfortable with one for two partners. Or if people really wanted multiples, changing it to two or three for one partner. I'm going to watch until I know what the expectations will be but do hope to join soon :)

I would agree with making it 2 or 3 inchies per partner. For people who are new at inchies, making more than 6 might become overwhelming, but sending 1 seems like a waste of postage.

In my inchies, I use digital art (usually based on my partner's profile) and add small embellishments!

JemStone 03/16/2012 #

Oh, thank you so much for doing this! I have been wanting to get into inchies but have never made them myself.

blueraven44 03/16/2012 #

It would be great if you would switch it to 2-3 for each partner, I will watch this :]

Beckster 03/17/2012 #

Maybe do 3 inchies to 1 partner? It's only 1 more than the original swap and it would help with the postage concern.

agirlnamedfriday 03/19/2012 #

Hey everyone! I've sent out an email to all of you who've signed up for the swap. I agree with @Beckster and decided that 3 inchies to one person was the best idea, so thanks to her <3.

Check your emails!

SilverHealer 03/21/2012 #

Oohhh, I like the changeup even better! Signing up =)

DeAnnaVarela 03/29/2012 #

Hello! I am new to swap bot and over the last week I've made six swaps and mailed off five. I also made my first ever inchies today. I am waiting to be rated and i would love to join this swap. As I mentioned, I have inchies ready to go. I can send you photos of these and my other work if you'd like for review.

Thank you for your consideration,

DeAnna

Awesome swap! I have never done these either and am glad to know that its a first timer one!

whytewillow 03/30/2012 #

Inchies, hmmm, guess I should try yet another kind of art expression that is absolutely new to me...I'm in just under the wire. Gonna give it a shot.

truckermikeswife 03/30/2012 #

Haven't done 'em, but I'm game!

Penbetsy 03/31/2012 #

Ok now I am confused! I thought that the inchie would be 3inches by 3 inches. Now I feel like a dumbie! How big are the inchies suppose to be across and down so that my partner isn't cheated? I have done other swaps and love doing them so thought that I would do the inchies, but have never done before. Don't know how big to make them. Oh boy, glad I read the comments! Help!!

SilverHealer 04/ 1/2012 #

@Penbetsy they're 1 by 1 inch, but we're sending 3 to our respective partners :D

PeggyO 04/ 9/2012 #

I'm a long time paper crafter but never made an inchie, so I'm looking forward to this. If I am your partner and you are very new to paper crafts, please just enjoy what I create and don't worry that you aren't doing that kind of work yet. I was ONCE A BEGINNER as well--and my first scrap albums, etc. show it! I learned by seeing what others did and having them teach me how to do it! Best of the week to everyone!

SilverHealer 04/12/2012 #

I've got my inchies done and ready to go! You guys have NO IDEA HOW OBSESSED I AM NOW! AAAHHHH. I'm in love and I hope my fellow Canadian partner enjoys them! I'll either send them today or tomorrow :)

agirlnamedfriday 04/14/2012 #

Hi everyone. I extended the deadline after speaking to a few people as there were some misunderstandings and because I also had to attend a funeral and I did not want to rush my inchies because it's not fair to send your partner sloppy art just because something comes up :(
