Description:

Konnichiwa and hajimemashita! I made a vector drawing to create a pattern for a tiny kimono ATC. If you can cut and paste tiny pieces of paper, this is the trade for you!

You will send out 1 ATC to 2 people.

Have a look at the pattern:

Complete instructions & tips for the design are here: http://shellielewis.wordpress.com/2012/10/21/kimono-paper-craft-pattern/

â–º Please read the complete instructions & tips linked to above. Save the pattern from the WordPress [right click and choose "save image as"]; it should be scaled to fit on 2.5 x 3.5.

â–º You can use a variety of patterned papers from different sources. You do not need to specifically use Japanese papers.

â–º Maybe try making a tiny kimono ATC before you commit to the swap. It is tiny!

â–º Paper the back side so it looks finished. Please sign and date your work.

â–ºOK for newbies with filled out profiles and imperfect swappers that need redemption. Please have complete profiles and explanations.

â–º Include your screen name and the name of the swap in the envelope when you mail it.

â–º I will angel any flakes after you give them a 1 rating.

I hope to carry on with this swap as an ongoing swap and we can all trade a variety of kimonos. I will renew this in the future if people like it and hopefully we can have our own kimonos wardrobe!

WARNING! Tiny kimonos may be addictive. ^_^

I think anyone joining this swap is lucky, especially if they get the host for a partner. Great description and rules. For a first time hosting a swap, you're doing excellent!! ♥

suemick15 10/28/2012 #

Can we use embellishments on the ATC?

ARTG33K74 10/30/2012 #

@suemick15 Oh sorry, I just saw this now and responded to your other message. Paper only is preferred. ☺ thank you!

danushaj 11/ 5/2012 #

I am having trouble with the pattern, it saves as a jpeg, then when I print it wants to print as a photo, so I can't scale it, or I haven't figured out how. HELP!!

DecoPalace 11/ 5/2012 #

same here!

ARTG33K74 11/ 6/2012 #

@danushaj I sent you a message. The pattern is a .jpg - it's ok to print as a photo. It should retain its scale because of the size in pixels as .jpg and be the right size.

sewcrazy 11/10/2012 #

jjI also tried printng it and got a full (8.5x11) copy and all pixeled, what am I doing wrong?? I would do this one, I didn't do the first one because I couldn't get the pattern to print, HELP!!!!!

ARTG33K74 11/11/2012 #

@sewcrazy There has to be a printing program, a kind of software that it interpreting the image to a full page size. The image is pixelated because it is being radically re-sized to be larger and the resolution is too low. {That's why all pixelation happens.} Look at the choices when you print and see if you can tell your system to print it as it and not re-size to full-page. Look at all of you options, something may be set in the default of the printer dialog box. When you get your window to print, look through and see what is checked or selected. ☺ Let me know if this helps!

DecoPalace 11/12/2012 #

@sewcrazy I have that on mine.. once the pop up comes up you will see under the picture a small check box that says "fit to page" uncheck that. After that I don't know what size photo we need to print it as.. Let me know if you figure out which size photo after that..

DecoPalace 11/12/2012 #

I tried at 3.5 x 5 and its to big

DecoPalace 11/12/2012 #

EVERYONE WITH PICTURE PRINTING.. print it as wallet make sure you UNcheck fit to page.. It will print at 2 1/4 by 3 1/4 Just a bit small but it should still work..

ARTG33K74 11/12/2012 #

When I printed it, I just printed it the size it should be but on a regular, standard 8.5x11 sheet of paper. Tell me again, computers make what easy? ^.^

misskrystalx 11/12/2012 #

Do a print preview also and you will exactly what it will print like. And as someone above said, make sure " fit to page is unchecked. Can someone give me an actual size, just one edge will do so I can make sure I'm printingright? I think I am I just want to make sure!

mizlilyroo 11/13/2012 #

Could you print the actual dimensions so I can draft a pattern rather than trying to print? It looks like a lovely idea.

DecoPalace 11/13/2012 #

@misskrystalx with the photo problem it doesn't let us print preview.. which down right sucks.. " it should be scaled to fit on 2.5 x 3.5" but with the photo problem its coming up just a bit under..

@artg33k74 I wish it was as easy as hit print..lol I hate this program that does that to the pictures. I wish I could get rid of it!

DecoPalace 11/13/2012 #

@ARTG33K74 can you tell me what all is wrote on the pattern?

PHOTO PROBLEM.. when you print it the way I stated above the obi will be to short.. Keep that in mind when cutting it out..

ARTG33K74 11/15/2012 #

@DecoPalace The obi seems short, but you want to glue it to the right hand side [wearer's left] and use it to gauge how much overlap there is in the kimono. If the obi is not going all the way across, you need to overlap the layers more. ☺

ARTG33K74 11/15/2012 #

@mizlilyroo I measured the height of mine at 2 7/8 inches [7.3 cm] and the width at 2 3/8 inches [6 cm]. As long as it fits on an ATC, I'm thinking it is fine! ☺

ARTG33K74 11/15/2012 #

@DecoPalace I made a new Ai file and blew the pattern up to a full letter sized page. It is in the blog post, too. Here it is, it should print 8.5" x 11":

Thank you so much everyone! You're really helping me find the flaws in my first pattern design. ^.^' I learned pattern design really needs Beta testers.

DecoPalace 11/15/2012 #

Thank you for making it bigger so I could read it! lol well you have us as Beta Testers!

ARTG33K74 11/15/2012 #

If anyone can shrink it on a photocopy machine, that may help people who are having problems with their printer. ☺

Evilwitch 11/26/2012 #

just realised the deadline to send is on Sunday. uk post office don't open on Sundays, so maybe another time you could make the deadline on a Saturday or a Monday. just a thought thanks x

ARTG33K74 11/26/2012 #

@Evilwitch Same thing in the USA. I thought it would be easier for people who usually have a day off, then they could drop it in the mail Monday! ☺ Live and learn.

The ATC Kimono Pattern is a beautiful garment that is perfect for intermediate Snow Rider 3D sewists. It is a traditional Japanese garment that has been adapted to be worn as a modern jacket or cover-up.
