Description:

Let's take a slightly different tack on the junk journal/smash book genre. Here's what you need to do:

  • Dig through your pile of stuff, hit the garage sales, visit your thrift shops.

  • Find a "blank canvas." Look for an unwanted organizer of some type, journal, or blank book of some kind. The only thing you can't use is a photo album that consists only of plastic sleeves. Please be sure that the item you pick will lay flat when opened so that it will be easy for your partner to work with.

  • Your selection must have at least 16 pages. EDIT: SINCE I WAS UNCLEAR IN MY ORIGINAL POST AS TO HOW TO COUNT THE PAGES, I HAVE CHANGED THE NUMBER TO 16, BUT THIS MEANS "16 SIDES" OR "8 PAGES, COUNTING FRONT AND BACK AS ONE."

  • Now the fun starts. Alter it. Add pockets. Cover up parts that you don't want showing. Embellish it. Please leave plenty of blank space for your partner to smash, junk and journal.

  • This creation is sender's choice, but it is always a good idea to look at your partner's profile.

  • I'm setting the due date for January 2013 because the holiday season is so busy for most of us.

Swap requirements:

You'll need to have a rating of 4.90 or better and a well filled-out profile so that your partners will have an idea of what you'd like. Newbies are welcome with a completed profile. No recent or unexplained 1s or 3s. No flakers. I will consider those with a lower rating with personal communication before sign-up. Please PM me if you have questions.

This one is limited to the U.S. due to postage costs.

I will angel if needed.

Interesting take on it!

I might play along myself, just for fun! ;)

So, do we transform all the pages, too? Or just the cover and leave the pages for the receiver to do with as they will? I picked up an old cook book the other day for smash booking/junk journaling pages to swap, but it would make a good base for a junk journal itself.

@grammag - You will alter/transform the whole book so that it could be used as a smash/junk journal, but you transform the pages in such a way that there is room for your partner to junk/smash on them.

Okay, Joyce... you talked me into this thing!... guess I gotta start somewhere! Let's do it!

joyceann888 11/14/2012 #

@pkmccann -- go for it! You'll get hooked!

this sounds like a fun swap, I'm definitely in!

kromo 11/20/2012 #

Can these be more than 8 pages?

joyceann888 11/21/2012 #

@kromo - yes these can be more pages.

Well, I've packed up a bag of stuff to take with me to Mexico, so I can start this project while lounging at poolside. LOL!!... I may even have to stick one of the little drink umbrellas in there somewhere. ;)

joyceann888 11/23/2012 #

@pkmccann - yeah, rub it in!

pkmccann 12/10/2012 #

Believe it or not, I actually took a ton of silly stuff with me on my vacation to Mexico, and sat by the pool and worked on my journal. It was an AMAZING conversation starter! I'm sure I've recruited a few new swap-bot enthusiasts. LOL!!
