I found the tutorial for this swap on pinterest and thought it was the best idea.

Basically for this swap you will be taking store bought postcards (any theme) and turning them into a small album which can be used as a SMASH book.

Instructions:

Follow the tutorial found here:

tutorial

For this swap your book should be four pages plus the front and back covers. That means, including the cover, you will use a total of 12 postcards.

Add some nice embellishments to a few of the pages

Please make sure your postcards are clean and in good condition. Try to pick interesting and pretty cards! :)

No NEWBIES. You must have completed and been rated for at least 30 type 3 swaps. If you are close and are waiting for some ratings to come in, you may sign up but be aware you may be banned closer to the date if your ratings are still not there.

Can we make these with a slightly different technique? It's one I've used before. There would be no staples is the main difference. The end result would look almost exactly the same.

As long as it looks the same, staples are not necessary. I can see decorative washi tape or the like working well. The general idea is to have a book made with 12 cards, two for each page/ cover

Great! I'm sure I'll join before the closing date. Thanks!

@ streetjewel and others. This swap looks like it might be popular so I may hold another version after this one is done, so keep an eye out

Hello all. I made my journal today, and I am very happy with the results. Keep in mind that due to the number of signatures (pages) this book will be a little chunky. Also since postcards tend to vary a little in size there is a good chance the edges will be a little uneven.

I have gotten word that washi tape may not stick well to postcards. I used a different type of decorative tape and it seems to be working well.

You may or may not choose to use staples in your book. I used staples and am happy with the results

Here are comments sent to me by a fellow swapper:

"First of all, when you are binding a book with tape, you can't put the two edges of the spine together. If you do, the cover will not close over the inside pages. You have to leave a space in between the two covers so that the tape will act as a hinge. when you tape the inside pages, you need to match the page with the back cover, then place the tape on the two pages. Again, this will make it possible for the pages to turn. If you butt them up together, they will not turn.

I would put the tape all the way around the front and back covers, with the two ends overlapping at least an inch in the middle. This will make the spine stronger.

To me, the staples on the outside edges don't look nice, at least the back of them don't. The edges also catch on one another so the pages stick together at times.

I would suggest that you should make a practice journal before making the one you are going to swap, so you can make the finished smash journal a nice looking one."
