Description:

There have been other coffee and yarn swaps (coffee and yarn seem to go together as naturally as peanut butter and jelly!) but none seem to be happening right now.

This swap is simple--one pound of coffee, either whole bean or ground (specify in the comment section which you prefer) and one skein of yarn (please specify in the comment section your preferred colors, and any allergies you might have such as wool).

By coffee, I mean something special (ie, not Maxwell House--not that I have anything against it, but we want this to be a bit less everyday) and by local, you can interpret that to mean either a local blend, or more likely something from a local shop. By yarn, I mean something fun and special (ie, not chain-store acrylic), and by local it could be something locally spun and dyed, and/or something purchased at a local yarn store. This is a nice way to support non-chain mom-and-pop shops, and some of the nicest of those are the coffee and yarn places.

Be sure to include the business cards from the shops!

This swap is limited to U.S. and Canada only, and to swappers with a rating over 4.8, or newbies with a filled-out profile.

I would love to join this swap but in both yarn and coffee categories all this is available in my area are big chains. No local yarn or coffee shops :(

yarnigras 04/27/2008 #

valleychic...I feel your pain. We have a Starbucks but no yarn store. plus, I drink hot cocoa......... hmmmmmmmm

vanessavh 04/27/2008 #

My only allergy is peanuts (OK if processed on shared machines as long as none in the actual coffee) One question, is there a recomended amount or price range on the yarn (ie: 1-2 skeins, 5-10 dollars??) Thanks! Vanessa

leahsimone 04/27/2008 #

Vanessa--one skein of yarn (although I'm sure more would always be welcome!), and I would say between 15-20 dollars for the pound of coffee and the yarn would be realistic (unless you can get some yarn on sale!)

I really like this idea. I prefer to have ground coffee. I like pretty much every colour except neon ones :)

leahsimone 04/29/2008 #

I also prefer ground coffee. I like every color, potentially, except for stark white or stark black.

SewFun 04/30/2008 #

I'd prefer whole bean, but either works.

I LOVE wool yarn, no allergies at our house. :)

What a fun idea. The only that could be better would be chocolate as well.

Jenny143 05/ 1/2008 #

What a great idea! High test coffee please (not decaffeinated) In whatever flavor you think best represents that Coffee Shop and your area. Lets have an adventure!

Yarn: No acrylic please! Soft warm colors please, nothing you can see from space :D Humane wool - fiber, if you can find it, guarantees you hearts!

Thanks so much!!!

leahsimone 05/ 1/2008 #

SewFun, you are so right--chocolate would round things out perfectly! Well then, whoever my partner is will be guaranteed some chocolate (unless you're allergic or don't like it).

Jenny 143--I laughed at "nothing you can see from space." You're sure you don't want neon orange acrylic?!! But it's so...festive!

melias 05/ 1/2008 #

It's a great idea for a swap! I like whole bean (sound of grinder calms baby) and like all textures and colors of yarn.

leahsimone 05/ 1/2008 #

It always amazes me what will calm babies. E. runs frantically out of the room when I turn on the coffee grinder!

lalchee 05/ 3/2008 #

Heeheehee...I sent Jenny143 some hot orange yarn in the Yarn Junkies II swap! :-) (In my defense, it was a "bonus" skein, 100% cotton, the four other skeins were more muted, and the colour of the month was orange! LOL)

I'd prefer whole beans, or a coarse grind (I use a French press). No decaf, please! :-)

As for yarn...no acrylics, please. I use animal fibres, but especially love soysilk and bamboo. Favourite colours are green and purple, but really, anything goes (except for that hot orange! LOL)

leahsimone 05/ 3/2008 #

That is so funny!! You know, I actually LOVE orange in almost all its shades...I'm not kidding!

kristieward1974 05/ 5/2008 #

would love some fun sock yarn i am really on a sock phase at the moment.

as for coffee beans or ground either is fine but not decaf really whats the point..

Jenny143 05/ 5/2008 #

You guys crack me up! In all honesty, dear lalchee, it is a lovely warm tangerine colorway, I did not need my sunglasses, it is not at all visible from space and I love it! :D

Oh I forgot - whole bean coffee preferred! Cheers!

sima 05/ 7/2008 #

What a fun swap! I'm actually trying to shift to decaf, whole beans is good.

I do live in a warm climate so cotton blends are always welcome...

harukamae 05/ 7/2008 #

OOh this sound so great!!!

whole or ground is fine (no decaf please)

for the yarn my fav. colors are in my profile!

SewFun 05/ 8/2008 #

My girls will be thrilled. They hear the coffee grinder and come barreling into the room begging for a mocha. They LOVE coffee, though they get a lot less of the actual coffee than they think.

JulieB63 05/ 8/2008 #

I am with you all on the orange thing. I like animal fibers or silk, soy, bamboo....etc. Not too fond of acrylic. As far as coffee.....I like coarse ground for my french press and I AM a de-caff-girl.

leahsimone 05/ 9/2008 #

Hey, everybuggy (did anyone else read Cricket Magazine as a child?)--I'm really excited about this swap. And I forgot to put it in my original comment--fully caffeinated for me! Otherwise It's eyes wide shut by mid-day!

KellyGirlKnits 05/11/2008 #

I can do either ground or whole bean. My favorite colors are Green and Blue. No allergies.

eweknottypurl 05/13/2008 #

Yum favorite things in the whole world !

Decaf - preferred switching to healthier version of me.

No allergies - love robins blue chocolate and lime

I havent tried anything other than wool and sock weight looking to broaden my knitting horizons a little.

chickenlil7000 05/13/2008 #

Oh, ya'll have sucked me in with your coffee and yarn evilness! Sounds like a hoot! For the interested partner, I'm not picky as to whether the coffee is ground or whole bean. If you really want me to drag out my grinder, I will :). As for the yarn, natural fiber please.....plant or animal matters not. I'm not terribly picky about color but please nothing too "festive".....lol.

Jenny143 05/14/2008 #

Leahsimone I loved Cricket Magazine!!!!

CADLady 05/15/2008 #

chickenlil7000 told me about this one. She's been known to wander in dangerous territory...so of course I'm going to join her! I like whole beans, but I won't "slap y'baldheaded" if you send ground. PLEASE, tho, nothing "froo-froo" flavored (unless your local shop is world-renowned for something and I should broaden my horizons by tasting it) -- at my house we like those Dark Roasts, simple and hearty. Yarn?.....I'm so into cotton, not so much into wool but not allergic, mostly make small projects, and ADORE trying "specialty" yarns, too. (If it stands still long enough, I'll try to knit it. I credit chickenlil7000 for that too! ;p

olsencjw 05/15/2008 #

I like a mild blend, ground please. Flavors are great. I just have a Mr. Coffee pot, nothing special.

I'm really into sock yarn right now. I have green listed as my favorite color, but I have plenty of green sock yarn right now. Anything but 100% acrylic is fine. If you do sock yarn, something washable would be peachy.

erinszoo 05/16/2008 #

I'm easy, I love coffee, cafe, decaf, no flavored.

Any yarn is fine!

sima 06/ 3/2008 #
