Description:

This swap is open to newbie ATC artists as well as seasoned ATC artists. You don't even have to consider yourself an artist - just have a willingness to exchange your heartfelt creations with others.

For those who are not familiar: an ATC, or Artist Trading Card, is a miniature work of art about the same size as a modern trading/baseball card, or 2½ by 3½ inches (64 mm × 89 mm). They can be created using various media, but for our purposes here we will be making COLLAGE ATC's.

We will be swapping ORIGINAL collage ATC's (first generation) ~ no re-trades or digitally created/reproduced cards. One ATC to one partner.

Some guidelines for creating your ATC for this swap:

  1. Start with a sturdy base. Copy paper, notebook paper or scrapbook paper are too flimsy and should NOT be used as a substrate for creating ATC's. Card stock is OK, but even better would be chip board, artist papers (watercolor, bristol, illustrator board) or recycled (clean) cardboard.
  2. Measure your base before you begin creating your artwork to ensure it is the proper size to be an ATC. ATC's are 2.5"x3.5" - not 2.25"x3.5"; not 2.5"x3". 2.5"x3.5".
  3. In creating your collage, use at least 5 different elements. These elements can be: decorative papers, ephemera, collage images, textile pieces, metal parts, embellishments, chip board shapes, die-cuts, book or magazine text, etc. You can make a dimensional collage or flat collage; something abstract or more realistic. You can also add other media (like paint or ink) and create a mixed-media collage. Stickers should only be used minimally/as accents.
  4. On the back of your card, include the following info: your name, screen name and "Swap-Bot Collage ATC". Anything else you wish to add (your location, date created, card title, etc.) is totally up to you, the card creator.
  5. Send your ATC in a greeting card or folded piece of card stock for added protection while in transit. Securing the card in a plastic trading card sleeve would be ideal, but is not required.

You'll be given plenty of time to create a thoughtful, miniature piece of art; being that it's sender's choice, you can even start right away. Please give yourself enough time before mailing to make certain that all elements are securely attached to your card and any wet mediums you used have set.
