Description:

For this swap you will make one hand carved stamp for your partner based on his or her profile. What kind of imagery would they like? What would they use the stamp for?

If you don't know how to make a hand carved stamp, visit this website to see a tutorial: http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/franontheedge/RubberCarving.html

Material must be something that will last. Many cheap hand carved stamps are made from an eraser (the white kind work better than the pink kind). Please do not use something that will decay or fall apart (like a potato or cork.)

Size should be equivalent to 1"x1" (1/2"x2" is just as good) at a minimum.

Go for extra hearts by making more stamps and/or larger stamps.

Open to swappers with no no-sends in the past 3 months, and at least 5 hearts.

Would it be horrible to send a stamp that I've made & used & cleaned well? I have a few that I've used & loved but I like to keep rotating what I have so I don't get bored...

So, we can make a stamp from the white polymer erasers, correct?

yes you can make the stamps from white erasers.

as for sending used stamps... The idea is to make a stamp that fits the wants and needs of your partner, so I wouldn't expect high marks if you sent a used stamp.

I'm new to stamp carving. I was in a beginner's swap recently (and what I carved was profile-based). I tested both stamps with ink to make sure they turned out okay. Is that a no-no (because it could be interpreted as used?) Or can you recommend another method of testing a stamp before sending?

springchick 08/14/2008 #

If you test using a non-permanent dye-based ink in a medium color, you should be able to rinse it completely off the stamp under warm water without damaging the stamp.

I've been carving (and swapping) stamps for a long time, and I have never been able to get all of the ink off of a stamp that I have carved.

Personally, I would prefer to receive a stamp that had ink stain on it, than risk someone ruining the stamp trying to get all the ink off.

@springchick Thank you for this swap; I always look forward to your stamps over on Flickr, they are always breathtaking =]

it certainly wouldn't hurt my feelings to get a used stamp or two! :)

Thanks kylanicole! I am happy to have found swap-bot and very much looking forward to this hand-carved stamp swap! I'm anxiously awaiting the assignment of partners....

springchick 08/21/2008 #

I would agree with T, it wouldn't bother me if the stamp had been previously inked... it's still new to me!

sorry for the delay in partner assigning. I was mistaken about the sign up date. Duh silly me.

As for the testing stamps question. I think it's reasonable to assume that your stamp will be tested before you get it otherwise how do you know if it works or not. :)
