Make a herbarium #1 ~ yellow

A herbarium (plural: herbaria) – sometimes known by the Anglicized term herbar – is a collection of preserved plantspecimens. While I was spoiling myself last week I read this article about making a herbarium. I was amazed how pretty those dried leaves and flowers looked. Also I think it will help me to go out for a walk more often, get some fresh air and a little exercise. I hope many of you will join me taking a walk and collect some flowers and leafs.

You will need something to carry those fragile flowers during your walk. The most easy and cheapest method will be 2 pieces of cardboard (cut from a box). In between you add a few layers of newspaper or tissues, your leaves go between 2 sheets of paper. close the cardboard tightly with some rubber bands. At home remove the rubber bands and lay some heavy books on top of your cardboard with flowers. Let it dry for a few weeks and you are ready to glue them in your herbarium. (this can be a cheap notebook) Taking a small scissor with you or a knife to cut your samples might be usefull as well.

It's fine if you use an other way of preserving your flowers or leaves. How you make your herbarium is up to you. For this first challenge we collect something YELLOW. Please don't cut endangered species, take a picture of those instead. Write a message or email to your partner. Tell her what you have seen during your walk and what yellow specie you have collected. You can add a picture of your herbarium if you want, or share an idea what you can make with it if you want to use it in a craft.
