Description:

(Last year 9hauntedgirls hosted a great swap for "short short stories," and I enjoyed it so much that she's given me the green light to host a similar swap. Thanks, 9hauntedgirls!)

Some people call them short short stories, while other people call them pieces of flash fiction or microfiction. Some people see differences between these terms, but whatever you want to call them, they're crafted stories with a narrative arc and a few well-chosen words. And they're very (very!) fun to write and to read.

For this swap you'll have 3 partners and you'll send each partner (by regular post, not email) 1 piece of very very short fiction, containing fewer than 100 words. Any topic, any writing style, any mode of presentation--as long as it's a story of some sort written by you and the word count is under 100!

You can send the same story to all 3 partners or a different one to each; it's your choice. And if you write your story in a language other than English, that's fine--just please be sure to include an English translation unless you are certain that your partners can read your language of choice.

Other details: 1) Unrated swappers are welcome. 2) Rated swappers with a rating below 4.95 will be dropped before partners are assigned. I may also drop swappers whose profile would cause concern; if there's something on your profile that you think might raise eyebrows, please PM me in advance. 3) This is an international swap!

Don't be shy, don't be hesitant--this is a form that everyone can try their hand at and enjoy. Let your imagination wander, and then count your words!

Hello, Bucket! Thanks for signing up!

I participated in this last year (actually, beckra, I think you were one of my swap partners) and I'm way excited to do it again!

Yeah, CarCrashHearts, I did receive your short short story last year--nice to see you again!

Ha, I just tried writing something for this and ended up double over the word count! 100 words is SO short! This will be a fun challenge. :D

There's a great online publication that only publishes microfiction of exactly 55 words! Check it out: http://www.grimgraffiti.com/penpricksmicrofiction/issue10.html

Sometimes I find it hard to scrap a phrase that's lovely yet unnecessary--but I also like the satisfaction of paring down and paring down and then realizing that fewer than 100 words can sometimes do the whole job....

Wow, this sounds like fun. :)

A very short story is on the way to each of my partners. Enjoy!
