This will be a TWO-PART SWAP! Please plan to participate in BOTH swaps or this will not work! I'll put a link to pt. 2 in the comments.

Have you ever wanted to do more traveling? If you have participated in the Traveling PC or letter swaps you may have wished you could’ve gone along for the adventure. Well, in this swap, you can! In order to have this adventure you need to create a flat version of yourself (like Flat Stanley) on cardstock or other sturdy material. Below is a link to an article about a similar swap with a template you can use if you wish. Feel free to make your own, but please keep the dimensions small enough to fit in a 5 x7 envelope. Scroll down almost to the bottom for the template. http://susanreynolds.blogs.com/artist/flat_stanley/index.html

Send your doll to your partner who will take the flat 'you' out and about and record her adventures in a journal. Take the doll you receive along wherever you go—I took the one I got to get a mani-pedi with me (hilarious photo!). Take a walk around your neighborhood, go to school, church, wherever you go—the adventure is seeing a new place! Be sure to take a photo with the Flat doll in it wherever you go, then write a short entry about the adventure. Please make at least 10 entries with images to put in the journal and send back to your partner. Find some fun mementos to put in the journal as well—pretty leaves, tickets to a movie you saw, a menu from your favorite place… whatever! If you go on a trip, take her along! My Flat Me got to go on a private plane to the All Star Game one year!

In Part 2 of the swap (in October) partners will mail the doll and journal back to the doll's owner so you can all read about your Flat Self's adventures!

The journal should include photos (with the flat me), writing, and anything interesting you collect on the way--postcards, menus, tickets, whatever!

This swap will take 2 months to complete so you have plenty of time for lots of adventures. Give your Flat Visitor a real city tour! After 2 months we all should have received, completed and posted back our journals, and sent our Pt. 2 partners an electronic version. I'll post Part 2 today as well. Please sign up for BOTH!

Start making your flat doll as soon as you sign up for Part 1, so you can send it out within a week of the sign-up deadline. Any questions please contact me. :)

Part 2 will be the partner taking the photos of the doll’s adventures, making the journal, and returning them both to the owner. You will send your ASSIGNED partner an email with scanned images (Choose at least 5, but you can send them all if you choose) of the photos and completed journal. You may also send a link to a Letterpop creation, Flicr stream (you'll need to add journal entries in an email), or ???

This swap takes time and effort (as well as some expense, so sorry, no newbies on this occasion. 4.98 and above please. Sorry if this seems redundant; I'm trying to be as clear as I can! Questions? Ask below and I’ll clarify.

Remember to sign up for BOTH swaps. I will ban anyone who is in only one of the swaps.

If you were in the last swap, you should have your doll back by now. Please send as soon as partners are assigned so your doll has the best adventure (and as many) as possible!

Here's a link to part 2. Remember you MUST sign up for BOTH swaps! http://www.swap-bot.com/swap/show/234526

This sounds like fun, but I need a clarification on something. At the end of part 2, is the journal mailed with the flat "whoever" to the originator? Or is it just emailed?

I've deleted the extra Part 2. I've been having to fight with SB to get these posted properly. Here's a link to the correct number 2: http://www.swap-bot.com/swap/show/234526

No one had signed up in the one I deleted, so I think we're all good now. Whew!

@mjhaertling You send the doll and journal back to the person who sent it to you (the doll's alter ego so to speak). Your assigned partner gets an email or a link to the Letterpop page you create, or Flickr stream, or however you want to share the journal and images you made. Does that make sense? The doll goes back home to its owner.

I had to split it into 2 parts so the one doing the most work (on the journal and hosting the Flat Me) gets to be rated. When I've done these swaps in the past, we were only able to rate the one who sent the doll, and if you got flaked on, never got your doll back, or a journal, you couldn't even rate down the person because they weren't assigned by SB.

I hope that makes sense. Thanks for the question! If it's still not making sense, let me know and I'll try again.

Must I send/post photos electronically or could I print them and send them as part of the completed journal??

Wildchild 11/30/2016 #

Shoot, I was thinking about it then realized it was US only, maybe I can find a way to do an International one that doesn't cost a lot, hmmm.

carol 11/30/2016 #

@skinny52 you could print and send, but unless you get assigned the same partner who sent the doll to you, you'll have a different partner for pt. 2. That's why I set up the electronic version--to avoid mailing something twice. You WILL send a printed version to the doll's owner, and an electronic (or hard copy if you prefer) to your assigned partner. I hope that makes sense!

carol 11/30/2016 #

@Wildchild Yes, sorry. I felt like costs could be prohibitive to many. Please feel free to set up an international (or local to your region) swap. It is fun!
