[Edit: It seems that in a moment of confusion, I set the dates for this swap wrongly. All swaps in this series have a sign up date of the 15th of the month, and a send by date the last day of the month. I have corrected this one now, and I apologise to anyone inconvenienced by that.]

Quotecard Postcard is a monthly postcard swap held to share a little zinger of wisdom/humour/etc with your partners. This is a pretty basic postcard swap. The only catch is that it MUST contain one of your favourite quotes, but that can be either an old friend or a newly discovered favourite. The postcard can be handmade or commercial. If it is handmade, you can incorporate your quote into the design if you prefer; otherwise you must write it on the back of the card.

Please say where the quote is from or give the credit where it's due. You may use quotes in languages other than English, but if you do, please include a translation for your partner. Do not forget to include the swap name and your user name on the card!

You will send out 3 of these cards, one to each partner, possibly across the globe. They should be postmarked! Please DO NOT send in an envelope.

I will ban if I see multiple no-sends or have any other reason to believe you will not be a good swap partner. Newbies are welcome!! (but must have a filled out profile.)

Happy swapping to all! Contact me if you have any questions.

Note: I have taken over this series at the request of @nicole who created it and hosted it for over a year.

This should be a fun, low-pressure swap, so don't feel you have to do a lot of research unless you want to do that.I have a Notepad file in which I save quotations that I like, so I don't usually need to search for them for my Quotecards, but when I want quotes on a particular theme, I put:

[theme keywords] quote OR quotation

into a search engine. I get links to some general quotation sites but also ones which only have quotes on that theme, which often have many more than the general sites.

Some general ones:

The Quote Garden

Think exist

Quotations Book

Quotations Home Page

Quoteland

The Quotations Page

The Quotations Archive

Hello, I just joined this swap, I'm fairly new to the website and I'm still trying to figure out where to find participants addresses - I've had no luck!! Thanks for your help .. Jade

spinjenny 12/17/2008 #

You will not get access to any addresses until the host assigns partners a day or two after the signup/drop deadline. Once that has happened, the "swap member options" box at the top right will have extra options including "See the partners you send to" (which takes you to their addresses), "Rate your partners" and a link to click when you have sent out your swap. As far as possible, swapbot keeps addresses confidential, on a 'need to know' basis, so only your partners and the hosts of swaps which you join can see them..

Repeating what I said above ... I set the dates for this swap wrongly. All swaps in this series have a sign up date of the 15th of the month, and a send by date the last day of the month. I have corrected this one now, and I apologise to anyone inconvenienced by that.

If this creates problems because of the 5 or 20 swap limits, you can move this swap to your watch list using the link in the box at top right of this page, then (I hope) rejoin nearer the signup date. Again, I apologise!

This is a great swap idea!

I agree! I was in the first one hosted by @nicole and I have been in every one since. I was pleased that she asked me to take over when she had to stop hosting them.

Hello! I really like this idea a lot, but since I'm a major newbie (just joined today, in fact) I have a question. When you say this part:

"They should be postmarked! Please DO NOT send in an envelope."

Does that mean to simply put the postage stamp directly on the card, and then just put the card in the mailbox by itself? Sorry if this seems like a stupid question; just wanted to get my facts straight before I joined. :]

spinjenny 01/ 4/2009 #

It's not a stupid question, and yes, that's exactly what you do. Some postcard swaps here require swappers to send one or more postcards in an envelope so that their partners can use the postcards to send to other people, or just keep as nice pictures, but the majority (I think) require them to be sent 'naked' as the postmarks and 'weathering' are part of the appeal for a lot of people.

This is a great idea! I have my postcards made already(!) so I am just waiting for my partners! Thanks for hosting this! :-)

spinjenny 01/12/2009 #

The credit for the idea is all nicole's!

ceah705 01/13/2009 #

I have a quick question. Is it one quote for all three post cards that we send, or three quotes, one per card?

spinjenny 01/14/2009 #

You can use the same quote on all three cards or a different quote on each - your choice.

nicole 01/14/2009 #

Thanks Jenny for keeping this going! I can't believe we are on #19!!!!

nicole 01/14/2009 #

errr.. i meant #20! lol!

spinjenny 01/15/2009 #

I bet you didn't realise what you were starting with the first one. :-)

spinjenny 01/16/2009 #

The next swap in the series, Quotecard Postcard #21, is now open for sign-ups.

bamboolioness 01/16/2009 #

Do we send the postcards in an envelope, without a message written on them so our partner can use them as postcards or do we send them to our partners as if we were sending them the postcard, message and quote. I'm a newbie, so I'm not sure.

bamboolioness 01/16/2009 #

Never mind! I reread the directions! NO Envelope, postmark. Sorry!

spinjenny 01/17/2009 #

:-)

spinjenny 02/18/2009 #

It is now more than 2 weeks past the send by date for this swap. I have contacted the partners of the participants who have not yet marked Sent. If anyone else has not received their postcards or been contacted by their senders to explain why there is a delay, please try to contact your partner before giving them a 1 rating, and contact me if you cannot resolve it between you.

Please PM me if you need any help, as I will not be checking these comments any more.
