QNT Black & white & polka dot all over around 2019

1-10-19 thru 2-5-19

--1 partner

--2 different blocks to your partner

--POLKA DOT print #1 2019

This year lets use different prints and colors than we did last year. Think outside your normal choices to add some spice to this years blocks.

This block series will be a great way to use up some small scraps of fabrics from our stash, or you can go buy more fabric in quarter yard cuts..…you have my permission!

Each month we will exchange 2 different blocks with one partner, and keep 2 blocks for ourselves.

Please note that the instructions below are for ONE block only, you will have to repeat it 4 times to get the suggested 2 different blocks to send and 2 blocks to keep.

*use 1/4 inch seam allowance to end up with a 8 1/2 inch block

Bright colored prints are best for the border fabrics. This series we will use print fabrics only, no solids. Small prints work better for these blocks than large prints.

Cutting instructions for one block:

Cut 2 different black and white prints into rectangles: 2 ½” X 4 ½”

Cut 6 polka dot prints into rectangles: 2 ½” X 4 ½” (the sample picture was assembled with 4 to 6 different red prints)

Assembly per block:

1.Sew the 2 black and white prints together to create center of the block. (assemble on the 4 ½ inch side, NOT at the end of 2 ½” side.) This creates your center. Press seams.

2.Attach a polka dot print rectangle to each end of center block. (lay center block on the table with the 4 ½” side closest to you) Attach one polka dot print rectangle to each end on the left and right. Press.

3.Sew 2 polka dot rectangles together end-to-end on the 2 1/2“sides making a long rectangle. Repeat with the other 2 PINK rectangles. Attach one of these units to the top and one to the bottom of the block. Press.

I hope my instructions are clear, and if they are not, please let me know. I love to look at an assembled block as my example so you can look at the picture on this swap to see what you will end up with.

FUTURE ROUNDS the black and white centers will have these colors/prints around them:

2019 senders choice print #2 2019

2019 spring floral print #3 2019

2019 yellow print #4 2019

2019 blue print #5 2019

2019 red print #6 2019

2019 tone-on-tone purple #7 2019

2019 orange or peach print #8 2019

2019 tone-on-tone green #9 2019

2019 senders choice #10

2019 recipients favorite color #11

2019 bright, wild and or crazy print #12

Have fun and swap-on!

Anyone else love polka dots as much as me? Would you be interested in an all polka dot version of this with a polka dot color of the month?

oh hey, cool idea....I can sure set that up for you, unless you wanted to start one as well...I would join. I have a Rubbermaid drawer full of just polka-dotted fabric. I am fine with polka-dots as long as I don't have to wear them.

Thanks Perk---I'm kinda swamped but would join in a heartbeat if you set this up or would love to do it with you :-) xo

Sounds fun....are the polka dot fabrics the same color or 6 different colors for each block?

PolkaDotty 12/12/2018 #

it might be cool to do a polka dot color of the month. Alternatively we could use a b/w pola dot center and just one polka dot print for the border. hmm, have to think abou this somemore

This version with different prints sounds fun! Thanks for creating it, Perkl8r.

for this round it will be senders choice on the color lay out of the polka dots.

If I set up a new swap for just black and white and polka dotted all around blocks we would pick specific colors for each round of polka dots. I don't have a lot of different polka dotted prints in anyone color so I would have to repeat a print multiple times. Would that work for you all?
