QnT CROSS in STAR block RED

2-17-19 thru 3-15-19

--one block each round

--one partner

We have a lovely old quilt made from these blocks which has inspired me to make a new version. This swap version will be a scrappy quilt block using one print and one white fabric each round.

I plan to make 2 of these blocks each round, one for my partner and one for myself. By the end of the year I hope to have 24 of these blocks for my quilt.

Block size 10 ½ inches

Cut fabric:

White (9) 2 ½ X 2 ½ inch squares (tone on tone white or plain white)

White (4) 3 X 3-inch squares to make half-square-triangles Print fabric (8) 2 ½ X 2 ½ inch squares (small to medium prints best)

Print fabric (4) 3 X 3-inch squares to make half-square-triangles Step 1: Making half-square triangles.

a. (on wrong side) Mark a diagonal line from upper left corner to lower right corner of each 3 X 3-inch white square

b. Place each marked white square on top (right sides together) of the 3 X 3-inch print squares

c. Stitch ¼ inch on either side of the drawn line

d. Cut on the line

e. Open and press the 2 half-square triangles (aka: HST)

f. Square each HST UP TO 2 ½ x 2 ½ INCHES

Step 2: Begin to assemble the cut pieces and the HST’s to resemble the picture on the swap. Use a ¼ inch seam allowance.

Layout = Row 1: white square, HST, print square, HST reversed, white square (across top of block)

Row 2: HST, print, white, print, HST reversed (next row down)

Row 3: print, white, white, white, print (third row down)

Row 4: HST, print, white, print, HST (fourth row down)

Row 5: white, HST, print, HST, white (bottom of block)

Step 3: press the completed block

Step 4: send it off to your partner

Round colors: blue, red, green, yellow, purple, pink, orange, aqua, lime green, brown or tan, peach, lavender or violet.

Swap-on!

I have my red all picked out, cut out, lines drawn on back of 3X3 white.....just waiting to get home from work and sew these up. I love these blocks.
