Description:

Have you ever thought about writing a novel but didn't know where or how to begin?

There's a month set aside each year to do just that. November is National Novel Writing Month when writers across the globe set out to write a 50,000-word novel in 30 days. That's right, 30 days! It can be done.

NaNo is run by a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. It's free to participate.

If you write just 1,667 words each day, you win the challenge of writing 50,000 words in a month. At the end of 30 days, you’ll have a rough, first draft of a book. No, it won’t be perfect, but it will be written. Getting to the 50K word count is done on the honor system. So it’s a personal challenge for every participant.

October marks the NaNo Prep season, meaning writers start thinking about the characters and the story they want to write. They start work on an outline, research or a sketch (literally) of what they want to do come November. The actual writing doesn't begin until Nov. 1.

Here are some resources to get you started:

Find even more resources by doing an internet search for Preptober 2020 or NaNoWriMo 2020. You'll find tons of resources to get you started.

For this swap:

  • sign up for NaNoWriMo and announce your project

  • send your partner a note that includes why you're intrigued/interested in undertaking this challenge, and include your NaNo Name and your Swap-bot name.

  • Join the NaNoWriMo Swapping group here on Swap-bot or the Swap-bot Wrimos group on the NaNo site. Feel free to join both.

Current members welcome to join this swap.

Snail mail. International. Newbies welcome with a complete profile. Rated players should have no 1s or 3s this year and must have a minimum rating of 4.95.

I check all profiles before assigning partners.

Why is the send date November 7? Shouldn't it be December 7?

@Merimax This is a swap to commit to doing NaNo now. I generally post another public swap at the beginning of November that gives people a chance to join during National Novel Writing Month without benefit of the prep time. This swap gives you resources to guide you in preparing for the month while making the personal commitment to take the 30-day challenge.

See the three things required for this swap in the description: sign up for NaNo, tell why you're doing so, join a supportive group.

An envelope went out to my partner today. Enjoy!
