Description:

We are crazy granny-swapping crafters! As a continuation of two previous swaps, this swap focuses on swapping crocheted granny squares. For this one, we are taking it to the next level by crafting "fancy" granny squares. A "fancy" granny is any non-traditional granny square. You know the kind... maybe with a flower or circular pattern inside... (I will be getting the patterns for mine from the 200 crochet blocks book.)

The requirements: In this swap you will send 2 "fancy" granny squares to two people (so you will send and receive 4 squares). The squares should measure 6 inches on each side. Though this sounds like a lot of squares, don't fret - you have tons of time. Please use a washable, durable acrylic yarn. To promote the creation of the most scraptacular afghans, you have no color choice and are at the mercy of your partner's stash.

If you are looking for a variety of yarn scraps, check out this granny yarn swap.

This swap is international and you must have a rating greater than 4 to participate. Newbies with completed profiles (or that have contacted me) are welcome.

Woohoo exciting! Thanks, karrie.

alicepalace 04/11/2007 #

Does anyone know of any good patterns that are free? :)

kushkusha 04/11/2007 #

Please clarify the size issue, since I got different sizes in Prev swap. Should it be 1. exactlly 6" (By adding 1 row of sc) 2. almost 6" 3. a little bit more than 6" ??

jannikinz 04/11/2007 #

Hi alice-palace. Log onto "Crochet Pattern Central"..there is an abundance of free patterns there & not just for squares, just about everything you could imagine, you will find it very helpful. Cheers from Jan.

jannikinz 04/11/2007 #

hee hee, my squares are done.

SaReMa 04/12/2007 #

Hi everyone! Karrie, just a quick question/doubt: does it have to be squares?

girlontherocks 04/16/2007 #

Hi sandra,

I think for this time we should keep it squares. Sorry for the delayed response!

nyflorac 04/17/2007 #

I found some free pattern from Japan. http://www.clover.co.jp/hand/hand52a.htm / http://www.clover.co.jp/hand/hand46a.htm

girlontherocks 04/18/2007 #

Hey KushKusha,

Ideally the squares should be 6 inches in size. If they are a little off, I think that leaving them a bit small might be better than adding a row of sc.

SaReMa 04/19/2007 #

OK Karrie, tks!

kushkusha 04/22/2007 #

You are right!! And here is the reason: http://grannyalong.blogspot.com/2007/04/how-to-spray-block.html

Alice-palace, Here you go! http://www.crochetpatterncentral.com/directory/6in_squares.php http://www.digitalgranny.com/va/ http://www.myhq.com/public/c/r/crochetpoet/ I hope the links help!

I am going to be using my 200 blocks book. I love finding reasons to try the different squares.

TriviumLady 04/30/2007 #

For those of you using the 200 Crochet Blocks book, what types of blocks in this book would you consider to be "fancy"? I didn't see anything that fit the "fancy...maybe with a flower" qualification. Or maybe I'm reading too much into this. What do you think?

girlontherocks 04/30/2007 #

Hey Trivium,

I was really considering anythign EXCEPT a traditional Granny square to be fancy, so really most of the thing in the book qualify, in my opinion. Even the kind that are a circle in the middle of a square aren't really that fancy, but for this swap, they are fancy enough! (and I really like that kind - I saw some in Yarn Tails' flickr photos http://www.flickr.com/photos/7897074@N08/)

TriviumLady 04/30/2007 #

Phew; glad I asked for an explanation! I was picturing something along these lines (if not even more intricate): http://members.aol.com/gandal195/irishivyrose.html
