Description:

Are there any ukulele players on swap-bot? February 2 is National Ukulele Day. Let's celebrate together!

I know that during the pandemic my ukulele group at the Senior Center hasn't met for nearly one year already! I miss my ukulele friends and learning new songs. Chances are your group isn't meeting either.

For this swap, you will send one partner one paper copy of one of your favorite (easy-to-play) ukulele songs AND a friendly letter sharing about your ukulele love: how you got started playing, the kind of songs you like to play, fun experiences and adventures with your uke, favorite online pages you have found that are sharing ukulele playing, learning, classes, jams, etc. that others can listen or play with and Keep On Playing Ukulele. It's more fun to play with others!

All welcome. Newbies, too.

Rate a 5 even if you get a song you already have or even if you don't like the song. What matters is you shared your ukulele, met a new uke friend and discovered National Ukulele Day! Maybe we can swap every month!

I will angel. Remember the mail is slow these days. And mail does get lost sometimes. Communicate first.

Enjoy the swap and play your Ukulele!

I have a question - does the paper copy of the songs have to include the melody line? I've always found it very hard to find anything in print that has a melody line. All of the printed music I have are favorite songs that I've typed up myself (or other jam members have typed them up). They have lyrics and chords. If I sent that with the YouTube link to where they can hear it performed, would that be acceptable?

Lyrics & chords are fine. That's how most ukulele groups share music. Many ukulele players don't read music. You learn the melody singing with your group or class. If your partner sends you a song you don't know, you can communicate to share the melody privately.

Thank you!

Most sheet music and music books have copyright laws so we would not be able to make paper copies of those songs.

True to some extent. Copyright law provides for the "fair use" - allows for one copy for scholarship & teaching for non-commercial use. Many favorite ukulele songs are often from the folk tradition. Those of us involved in ukulele classes & groups are currently restricted from our learning situations during the pandemic, we need new stimuli to keep learning.
