Description:

I love sending and receiving postcards...but I'm always curious whether or not the mail carrier or other postal workers have read them before they reach their final destination. Let's assume that they probably do (people are nosy).

For this swap, you will send one postcard to three partners. In the message area, you will write an outrageous lie that is sure to entertain all the wonderfully nosy postal workers that dare to read it. For example:

"Dear Mary,

I finally narrowed down the list of possible fathers to seventeen names. Thanks for the loan for the last paternity test.

Yours truly,

Melinda"

Thanks to all of you who participated in the first round. Have fun and remember...liar, liar, pants on fire!

P.S. To avoid giving away that these are blatant lies, label the postcard really small or just using the acronym "LLPC". This way your partners will know exactly what swap the PC is for.

Ooooh, another one! Did you see the suggestion in the thread of the last swap about doing it as a series with a theme? I think that would be fun....a lie about your family, a lie about work, a lie about nature, a lie about health, alie about money....each swap a diff. theme. Not my idea, just restating it because it sounded so much fun. I got my first one yesterday, hoping to get the other soon. The swap was a blast and I'llb e watching this one 'til closer to signup!

mutantpenguin 03/11/2009 #

Please don't think I'm stupid... I don't do scrapbooking or anything related to cards etc. Storebought ok? And does anyone have an idea where I can get some besides Barnes and Noble? I just never think to look for them. Are they everywhere and I'm just blind? heheh

mspeegle 03/11/2009 #

Yay! Thank you for doing this one again! The first one was a lot of fun! :)

zerofantasies 03/11/2009 #

mutantpenguin, you can usually find them at grocery stores or also drug stoes (walgreens, cvs) some gas stations has it too

mutantpenguin 03/11/2009 #

Thanks! Someone in another swap I just did mentioned how much fun this was and that she was hoping another would be done and I just thought how cool... had to check it out. I will look for some postcards and if I find some I like, I'll join. BTW, when you're trying to figure out international postage for a postcard, what do you look at in the USPS website?

asylumgoddess 03/11/2009 #

Currently, it is 94 cents to send a postcard or letter from the US to another country (72 cents for Canada).

VickiM 03/12/2009 #

Thanks for doing this again it was so much fun the last time...writing and recieving.

ladybree 03/13/2009 #

In the swap description it says that we have two partners, but according to the number of partners, it says we have three. Which one is correct?

AndreaJ 03/14/2009 #

Mutantpenguin, I find many of mine at Walmart. Museums usually have nice artsy ones too.

My first postcard swap and it sounds like a "blast". Can't wait to come up with something outrageous!!! : )

craftykeri 03/21/2009 #

this was so much fun last time- I just have to think of another good lie by Mar 30th! hmmm...

halfwaythere 03/21/2009 #

The first one was so much fun! Walmart usually has some local postcards. I also get them for about $1 at a local antique store, I think they're about a quarter at WalMart, but there's a better selection at the antique store.

You can also take a standard size photo, glue cardstock on the back and you have a postcard! you could probably do it without the cardstock, but you can leave one side open and put in something fun [and flat!], then stick a piece of tape to close the opening. I haven't had any problem mailing them, and so far everything has arrived safely.

ladyrn 03/22/2009 #

I think thhis sounds like so much fun. I often wondered about if my postcards were read. I have to join and am busy thinking up a great little lie.
FYI-I ask every store I go in if they sell postcards. A lot of gas station places do. I have found them at Walmart, Barnes & Nobel and also Hallmark stroes also.

michelejeanne 03/22/2009 #

If you live near a major highway, some of the rest areas have little stores inside where you can get postcards of your state.

sherartcee 03/22/2009 #

This sounds like fun, can't wait to write a lie......

free2flutterby 03/22/2009 #

I only have one question...what if your lie strikes so much interest or suspicion that the postal carrier doesn't deliver it?

sunnisandy 03/23/2009 #

I have not yet received my names? Did I miss something?

ladyrn 03/23/2009 #

I am really friendly to one of our post office workers. We live in a very tiny little rural town in Wyoming. She said they never read the cards. LOL I aksed her if she was able to watch everyone and they she said no. One of the other workers there told me that she has heard of many who do read them. I think this is going to be so cool! I also have old girlfriend of one of my boys who works the night shift at the postoffice. She said as the supervisor on nights she has caught many who have been reading postcards and even magazines. She said they can be fired on the spot for it. I wonder how many don't get caught.

aisbaby 03/25/2009 #

TDD123 04/ 1/2009 #

I checked my profile and it says I'm currently not in any swaps. Since I'm a newbie I'm not sure why. Help please?

I've received two postcards with hilarious comments and even rated them already. :)

free2flutterby 04/14/2009 #

This was a great swap!! Thanks so much for the laughs...please let me know if you do it again...I'm already thinking of my next lie.
