http://www.zinebook.com/resource/zinetips.html

http://www.instructables.com/id/how-to-make-a-zine/

Since the hard work is actually creating the zine (and not making a certain amount of copies), you will have five partners. Send them each one zine or even more for hearts. This swap is open to anyone with at least 5 snail mail swaps and a rating of 4.8. The zines can be any topic at all. If your zine could be construed as offensive to your partner, consider sending another zine with it and putting a warning label on the possibly offensive one.

Possible topics (just a start):

  • Cooking

  • Politics

  • Short Stories

  • Craft instructions

  • Poetry

  • Photographs

  • Artwork

The possibilities are endless! You will have about one month from the sign up date to send your zines. This is in case you have never made a zine before or want to make a new one for this swap.

Ive never made one before, but this looks interesting,Im putting it on watch...do they have to be photocopied?

So a zine is just like a little book you make yourself? is that right

I've been making my zines the size of an ATC (3-1/2" x 2-1/2"-- once it's folded), out of one sheet of 8-1/2 x 11 paper. But that only give me 8 pages. I think I can insert 4 more but I wanted to make sure that the size would be OK for this swap. THANKS!

If you want to make two ATC sized zines, that would be okay.

As for photocopying them, that is definately the easiest way to make copies. I usually print, glue, cut, and paste together a master copy and then make photocopies from that to send out. You can take the master copy to Kinkos or Staples or Office Depot and they can do the front and back copying for you. It costs about twenty cents a sheet. So this means a half page zine with 12 pages would cost about 1.20 to print.

A zine is like a mini magazine you make yourself. Search for zines on etsy.com and it might give you some ideas too.

OK, just to confirm before I get started. IF I'm making ATC-sized zines (3.5 x 2.5 folded) I would need to send 2 zines instead of just 1 to each of my 5 partners, since they are smaller than the standard sizes you mentioned in the description? Sounds good:) thanks!!!

Note to whomever gets me as a partner: PLEASE do NOT send me anything that might be considered offensive!!!!!!

I love the zines, and I love the offensive! Hopefully this will be the motivation I need to finish my latest zine which has been gathering cobwebs for the last 4 months X(

theersatzrabbit 04/ 8/2009 #
