Description:

Greetings, travelers! Today, our adventure takes us to Ancient Egypt. We will be depicting the first of many Ancient Egyptian gods who will be featured in this group: Anubis.

The embalmer of bodies, guide of souls, protector of graves, (sometimes) god of the underworld, and weigher of hearts, Anubis is depicted as a black jackal/man with the head of a jackal. While his roles and name shifted through dynasties, he was first known as Anpu/Inpu (Inpu meaning "to decay"). It is difficult to know exactly how his name would've been pronounced, but we do know how it was written. As such, for the challenge element of this swap, please include hieroglyphs spelling one version of his name. You can view them here on Wikipedia, as well as learn more about Anubis himself! The hieroglyphs are visible both in the sidebar and under the "Name" section.

Your Anubis should be handcrafted in some way -- drawn, painted, collaged from colored bits of paper, etc. He does not need to be depicted in a strictly "authentic" style, and can be shown alone or with a family member, standing or in action (embalming a mummy, weighing a heart, etc). We will be making the version with a human body, but you may work in the jackal/canine version as well if it's not the main focus. Basically: have fun, and take your time! Make sure you send out something you would like to receive.

Rules

  • 1 ATC for 1 partner, extras not necessary but not actively discouraged

  • standard ATC rules: 2.5" x 3.5", sturdy backing, send in a protective sleeve. Please include the swap name, your username, and the date on the back. I think it's also fun to sign them/receive them signed, but this is not required. If you do not sign, please write your first name and last initial as well.

  • portrait or landscape orientation are both acceptable

  • 2 weeks to create and send, though because this is not profile-based, you may start early and ship it out once you have your partner!

  • please rate a 5 if the card you receive meets the requirements. Give a heart if you love it.

  • if there is any chance your envelope exceeds one ounce or will get classed as a small first class package, please make sure you add sufficient postage. USPS has been cracking down on postage due. Note: this should not happen if you send the card in a notecard or similar, but could if you add a bonus card or anything else. It's always best to weigh first. Anubis does it all the time and has to handle human hearts, which is objectively worse.

  • If you will be late for any reason, please message both me and your partner as soon as you can. I do message swappers who have not sent and not provided explanation. That said, if it's an actual emergency, take care of it and we'll figure it out when you're ready. I will angel but hope I won't have to here (and will ban if it's the case).

If you have any questions, please message me directly or tag me in your comment (just @Hausofimps with the @ symbol). This will send me an email notification to check the swap.

Thank you for reading!
