International swap, up to 3 partners, EMAIL

@jessnewson98 asked about a swap for Indigenous People's day, so let's read! :) In the US, Indigenous People's day is the 2nd Monday in October (otherwise known as Columbus Day - and Thanksgiving day in Canada, I think?) In Australia, it is September 7th.

For this swap, check out a list of Indigenous People's books This list is centered on the US and This list is centered on Australia to get you started. If you find other lists to share with the group, please post them in the comments below. Also, if other countries celebrate Indigenous People's month/day, please tell me! :)

Have you read any of the books on the list? You can talk about that book. Haven't read any of the books? Choose one to read. and you can talk about it. :) Before you join the swap, you should have at least STARTED reading the book so you can talk about it. :)

After the sign up ends, Send your partner(s) an EMAIL (not swap bot message) with the book title, author, and what you felt about the book. Did you enjoy the book? Did you learn anything about another culture? Share your thoughts.

Please use swap-bot: R&W Indigenous People's day for the subject line. It will make it easier for your partner to find and rate your email, and will hopefully keep it out of your spam box. :) Be sure to include your SB ID as well.

Please remember to be kind with your words to your partner.

Questions? Comments? Please send me a PM I will reply as soon as I can.

Canada celebrates National Indigenous People's Day on 21 June.

Some parts of Brazil celebrate Indian Day, established in 1943 to honour the indigenous people of Brazil.

The United Nations has established an International Day of the World's Indigenous People. There are some good resources here

Does the book selected to read have to come from one of the two listed/linked lists?

USAFwife 08/27/2022 #

@Artistic no the book does not have to be from one of those lists. They were the ones I found when looking up the observance, and I thought it could be a good starting point for people when choosing a book. If you find other lists or know of other titles that would fit the category, that is fine, and if you would like to share that info with the group here in the comments, please feel free to do so.

One thing that is nice about reading challenges like this is that it helps us find new titles and authors. But it can be tough to find a book that fits a category, so sharing is a great thing. :)

A reading list to honor Indigenous People's day is another list I just found. There are several on the list I've read and can recommend.
