Yokai ATC #1

I'm starting up a new ATC series within the group ~ As such the Alien ATC series will take a break for a bit while we explore the fascinating world of Yokai!

Shout out to @HausOfImps for originally hosting the Yokai ATC as part of her public folklore swap series!

Yokai is a broad term encompassing many different supernatural creatures and phenomena from Japanese folklore. Some are cute, some are scary, some are silly. Some are mischievous and some are helpful. They include ghosts, demons, spirits, goblins, monsters and more!

Check out this Yokai database to see many illustrated examples!
This site also has examples in different art styles.

For this swap, you will select any Yokai of your choice to use as the subject of your ATC. There are so many to choose from the possibilities seem almost endless! Depict it in any manner you like using any medium created with effort.

Since we'd likely get tired of swapping before we ran out of Yokai to choose from, this will be a series of free-theme Yokai ATCs that you can join as you please.

If you do join multiple swaps in the series, please make a different Yokai each time as we may end up getting the same partners multiple times. This way we can all have a nice varied collection of wonderful Yokai!

Swap rules are as follows:

  • Create 1 ATC for 1 partner that depicts ANY Yokai of your choosing! The card may be hand drawn, painted, collaged, mixed media or similar. Please do not use stickers and try to keep it relatively flat if you use any embellishments.

  • Standard ATC rules apply: 2.5" x 3.5" size, portrait or landscape, using any medium created with effort, add a sturdy backing if you are not using thick cardstock, write on the back name of the swap + your username, first name + last initial OR sign it if you like, & put the card in a protective sleeve of some sort.

  • Please include either on the back of your card or in a separate note - the name of Yokai you've chosen. It may be fun to include a little bit of information about it as well, but this is not required.

  • You will have a little over 2 weeks to create & send your ATC. As the Yokai is sender's choice you may make your card ahead of time if you like. If you plan to participate in future rounds I will be asking that you make a different Yokai each time as you may be assigned the same partners.

  • Please rate promptly once you've received your ATC and rate a 5 if all rules were followed; hearts may be given at your own discretion if you love the ATC! Extras are not required nor are they discouraged.

  • Please communicate with both your partner AND myself if you will be late getting your swap out. I will angel in the case of flaking after you have communicated (or attempted to) with your partner and rated them.

Message me if you have any questions, concerns, or other issues! Thanks for your interest and happy swapping! :)
