Description:

Make a small junk mail journal for your partner to use and add their collaging, writing, goals, and dreams to.

Here is a video on how to make an easy junk mail journal.

Junk Mail Journal Tutorial In this video, the artist first shows a journal with no embellishments and one at the end that is fully decorated. For this swap, we will be making something a lot closer to the first journal she showed than the last one.

No need to "cover" pages. Leave about 40-50% of the journal “naked” for your partner to fill. Leave pages with original text or photos showing. Make something that your partner can then take and add their touches, writing, or drawings to make it into something they will enjoy. Think of it as a collaborative project.

Fun things to add: a magazine image, sales circular pages, receipts, used tickets, a windowed bill envelope, pieces of gel printed papers, scrap paper with paint spills, a promotional postcard, basically paper ephemera from the mail you would recycle, or bits from your everyday life. Using an envelope to make pockets and flaps is encouraged.

Maximum junk journal size 5“x6” and not to thick, we want it to be easy to mail in an envelope with little postage!

Minimum 12 pages (counting the front and back of each page) maximum 20 pages.

Include a letter to your swap partner. Tell them about your hobbies and why you like swapping.

Since this swap is not profile based feel free to make or start making your junk mail journal before the swap partners are assigned! Have Fun!!

So, we make the journal and then pre-prepare backgrounds on some of the pages? Am I understanding this correctly?

fiberlady23 03/ 4/2024 #

alihagerart, For this swap you don't need to pre-prepare the pages. By pre-prepare, I mean completely covering the junk mail pages with blank paper, lined paper, or paint. Add minimal decorations here and there like images from magazines, washi tape, or other items. The idea is to leave about 50% or more of a given page so that the original text or images can still be seen. You will be making something that your partner can then take and add their touches to make it into something they will enjoy. Think of it as a collaborative project. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any otherquestions.
