This is a US-only Swap, in which you will send 1 (one) horse to 1 (one) partner! Some of you will know about the hobby of "model horse showing" (where models like Breyer are shown in live or photo competition for their paint jobs, tack, setting, etc.) and others will be familliar with the "cows on parade" or "trail of painted ponies" city projects- They have one thing in common: You start with a model. (In this case, any resin, plastic, rubber, (ect) model of a horse that is mostly horse-shaped) You decorate it. You name it. You sign it (under the belly if nothing else, has room for your intitials and the year)... Then you give it away to someone! It's Easy. In this swap, we will make EASY rules- this should be doable by anyone, and I will add some helpful hints at the bottom too. 1) Buy a model horse. (This should be about the size of your hand or so (about 3" to 8" long or tall) think... stablemate sized, toy sized, dollar store sized!) 2) Decorate it! (Hint: use a primer if possible. plaint white spray paint usually works, or a 'primer' for plastic model cars works. 'deco' paint in white also works! White makes colours stand out, and hides the previous colours! It also aids in paint adhesion) 3) Be CREATIVE! Run Wild! (Use any method of decoration you want! Make a horse into a scoolbus, a space ship, or cover it in BLING! Wrap it in embroidery floss and beads, or paint it like a very very very realistic horse and give it different textures and colours! Use any method you want, to decorate your creation! Simple OR Complex! It's YOUR work!) 4) Sign/Date it: (If there's no easy way to 'sign and date' on a base or something, you can use a paintbrush or permenant pen to simply initial it and put the year (EG: JT/2007) on the underbelly where there is room! No base required! Add the name/title if it has one, on a note or on the model, as you desire!) 5) SEND it!! (You'd be surprised, but at this stage, you may be prancing horsey around the desk, and woefully sad to see him or her go to a new home. Play with him/her a few minutes. Take a picture. Scan it. Then box that little horsey up (with plenty of bubble wrap or such!) and SEND IT OUT! Someone will be /delighted/ at your handicraft!) If you need any help with your project, post about it here! I'll check back and give advice as needed. Email also works, or swap-bot mail. Notes: This is NOT an international swap, due to postage and delivery concerns. If I get a good response to it, we will also do an international version! Newbies ARE welcome, but only if they have their profile fully filled out. People with low ratings will be scanned out prior to the start of the swap/assigning of partners! So feel free to join, but get any "no sends" cleared up, or your rating boosted before then, or I may ban you from this swap. (This is a LOT of effort to go to for anyone to not get something in return- but I understand sometimes to get back to a high rating, you have to try new swaps. Mail me if you need to!) Never done this before? ASK! These simple instructions seem like plenty to me, (don't want to restrict the creative process!) but if you run into problems, ASK! Everyone will be happy to help, me included! What 'horse' to start with? EASY: 1) Choose one that stands at least 3" tall. Use your flat hand as an example. It should not be much smaller than that- unless you want to send more than one, of course! >:) 2) Dollar stores are a great source of 'horse shaped objects' (horses that may not be anatomically correct, or WELL sculpted, but they work great for this project!!). Don't be afraid to buy several and send the one you like to your partner! Experiment! (steer clear of 'rubber' horses that have prominant mold lines (like the head/neck)... the "safari" and "schlein" brand are good tho! They run 2-4 bucks at MOST, and are rubber-like in texture.) Breyer and Peter Stone also make small horses ("Chips", "Stablemates" and "Paddock Pals" by name specifically) that work GREAT! They take primer well, but cost between 3 bucks fore the stablemates to 7 or 10 for a paddock pal set. 3) Toy stores can often help- print out this page and ASK them for a suitable model! Don't pay more than a few bucks if you've never done this before- remind them this is a 'horse shaped object' project and does not need to 'show' in a live model horse show! It's for fun!! 4) Don't be afraid to make a HERD of smaller horses or foals. Breyer makes a 5-foal set that's a blast, or some dollar stores may carry little models of running horses (or standing in various positions) that would normally be too small. Send them as a set, and your partner can glue them to a base once they arrive safely! The only things You MUST do, to get a "5" in this swap: Decorate your horse (or horses), and send them safely to your partner. I suggest postal insurance/delivery confirmation to gaurentee safe arrival. If you feel a horse was poorly done, that is an opinion... please be generous, and give a "5" to any partner who fulfills that requirement. 1 horse, decorated, and safely arrived. Give hearts for extra effort of course! Have FUN with this one!! | |
