What is a composition book? I thought it was like an excercise book you use at school, but the ones I have only have 23 sheets...

ok, 24.... 23 doesn't make sense....

I can't join this swap right now as I do not meet the requirements but I am curious what the 'prompts' are?

As in write in the pages, requesting what to have done to that particular page?

This does sound like alot of fun so I am working to get all the requirements met!

Impeus - I think you are thinking of a "blue book" like the kinds we used in school. A Composition book standarly has the black marble looking cover, and is about 7 1/2 X 9 1/2. Any similarly sized notebook/journal will work just fine. It doesn't have to be a composition book. Let me know if you have more questions.

Pancua - The "prompts" can be anything you want the recipient to "do" to "wreck" the journal. Each separate page should have a different prompt (at least 30) that you're written on the page. Ex. Spill coffee on it, paint a picture of something, finger paint, fill a page with stickers. Use your imagination, or take a look at : www.wreckthisjournal.com for inspiration. I would LOVE to join this swap, but I don't meet the requirements and won't be able to do that many more swaps before the deadline =[

I've picked up wreck this journal a few times in book stores and always wanted to get it but never did. This is a great idea for a swap.

i have 2 questions, 1 is we leave it blank with the exception of the prompts right??? and if the answer is yes, do you think you might consider running another swap trading out the wrecked journals a few months down the line, if you have a good turn out from this swap and people want to join?

@Craftymomme08 Yes, leave it blank with the exception of the prompts (and a decorated front/back cover). I would consider doing another swap for completed ones if people want to...or you can do it, it won't hurt my feelings :)

hmm... love the idea, but as I think through some of the steps, it occured to me that in the original "Wreck This Journal" a couple of the prompts involved doing some alterations to the covers. How critical is altering the cover for this swap, if we prompt our partners to do their own altering? I mean, looking at the cover of the original, the image is of a plain piece of paper taped onto the front and written on. Can ours be that simple, expecting our partners to then further alter what we send?... or do you want something more complicated and artistic?

@MommyKnows - you don't have to do much to alter the front or back. Especially if some of your prompts include altering it. For me, I was just thinking of covering up the original black marbled cover w/ something that said "Wreck this Journal". Doesn't have to be much.

we can do more than 30 prompt pages right?

@craftymomme08 - Yes, feel free to do as many prompts as you want, I just wanted to set a minimum. I plan to write a prompt on each page for my partner :) Also, since It's not profile specific, we can start thinking of prompts now!

ha! i think this sounds like a great swap, i have a wreck this journal, and love it! i was actually thinking the other day a swap where you swap the book back and forth would be cool, kinda like a friendship book type thing. either way i'm super new and can't join right now, i can't join any more swaps regardless, but i'll watch it just in case, maybe it'll come back around again!! fantastic idea.

I know we only put the prompts on the pages, but I was looking at the website you linked to and do we just write it in or do we add a little to it too? For example, on one of them it said poke holes . . . and one page had flowers drawn on it and the person poked in the middle of them and another had random numbers all over. It is hard to tell because it could have been made for them to kinda follow or the person that has the journal could have just been creative. It is hard to tell after the finished product what they had on it before the wrecking was done.

You can do whatever your imagination leads you :) I think in the original the pages are pretty blank, and just give prompts and then the recipient or "wrecker" can use their imagination as to what the prompts mean, and do whatever they want to it.

Will there be another one of these swaps in a month or two when I'll have more swaps finished?

maybe I'm putting too much thought into this lol. Ok, so when you look the pages are all white (well, the ones you can still see lol). Well, in the book they are ruled. So would we just write on it "poke holes on this page" and that is it? Or do we need to like glue down a white page. Sorry, I just don't want my partner to get mine and be like, oh this crappy lol.

...speaking for myself, I think artists today are working over lines, graphs, even text... so no need to make the page white. Besides, the person altering will have creative license and everyone interprets things their own way, so they may choose to cover the page themselves even if you have or have not. If you get me for a partner there is no need to glue down a white page.

I will PM my partner to find out if they prefer more journaling than art... or vice versa. I had the most trouble, in my copy of "Wreck This Journal" when the prompts had to do with documenting something. My personal preferences run toward more artistic kinds of prompts, so I may be apt to use more of those in the one I make, unless my partner specifies that they like to write and document. In which case I will prompt accordingly.

Ok, so then on mine I'm just going to write in what to do and not make it artsy-fartsy like the pictures I've seen. I guess that does make sense that way you can do it yourself. Thanks MommyKnows.

The pictures on the website are of completed pages. The pages just started out with prompts. The photos are of what people have done to those pages.

we did this swap earlier this year and it was alot of fun. I still am wrecking mine and then my partner mailed it back to me. I am going to put on watch if I clear room I will join for sure!!

I'd also like to know if the host (or anyone else) plans to do another one of these swaps later on.

I love the idea of this swap but I don't qualify yet because I don't have 20 mailed swaps yet. I'm working my way there though. =)

I'd like to know if we can use a spiral journal. I know they have 70 pages for the smaller ones, but if they are "poking holes in pages" then you could technically say that there are thirty five pages and I think that would work. If we can, I'd love to join, just need to know this info. :D (Awesome idea btw.)
