Description:

This was a swap that my mom and I came up with last night and I just couldn't pass up posting it. There are two parts for this swap.

UPDATED INFORMATION- The new rules for this swap are as follows, when partners are assigned you will make/buy a plushie no bigger than 6 1/2 inches and take it around your city taking pictures of it in random places, places you enjoy going, Historical places, family events. You will also write a little letter about the adventures the plushie has been on. Lastly you will collect a few souvenirs (keychains, magnets, postcards) for your partner. When you have finished you will mail it all off to your partner.

So when you mail back your package should include a plushie, a letter, photos, and souvenirs. Hopefully this will work out better. Let me know if anything needs more explanation.

Any questions you may have please feel free to message me.

In order to join this swap you must have completed at least 5 mail swaps not including postcards or letters. You can have no recent 1's, 3's or no sends. There will be a long due date on this so feel free to put it on your watch list until you get more ratings. I will not be able to angel this so please only join if you intend to send.

Can the plushie be knit or must it be sewn? Also, should it be an animal, or can it be some other object? This looks like fun!

marcsgrl 07/17/2009 #

It can be any type of plushie you want it to be. It is your creation and will be coming back to you so make it whatever you want. Just be sure that it is no bigger than 6 and a half inches.

also I extended the due date just a bit so our American friends can take photos of the little visiting plushie at their Thanksgiving get together's.

I would LOVE to do this swap but I'm not good at sewing, crocheting, etc. I would do it if it could be a store bought plushie.

zigg13pra 07/17/2009 #

Hmm, there's a group that does this too...

zigg13pra 07/17/2009 #

I'm confused on the ratings.. Say, swapper A and swapper B. A sends to B and B takes pics and sends it back to A, yet A gets rated for what? For sending the swap and that's it? Which leaves swapper B no obligation to actually take pics or send it back at all...

NickysNickNacks 07/17/2009 #

Right the person doing all getting all the pics and souvenirs will not be rated on their effort :(

NickysNickNacks 07/17/2009 #

I love the idea though

Zigg13pra:

Which group? I'd like to check it out.

conniepierce73 07/17/2009 #

Why doesn't A pick out the stuffie do all the pics, etc. then send everything, including the stuffie to B?

djmom11 07/17/2009 #

I don't join these, too much chance of getting flaked

principeta 07/17/2009 #

I agree with zigg13pra and like conniepierce73 idea.

Doodlebabe 07/17/2009 #

Um...why is it that this looks an awful lot like MY group, Worldwide Bear?

kater 07/17/2009 #

I would also join if the plushie could be store-bought (and since you're getting your own plushie back, does it really matter to your partner if it's homemade?)

rumblegirl 07/17/2009 #

Marcsgrl - I agree that Conniepierce73's idea might work a little better.

Doodlebabe - It's completely plausible that someone would come up with this swap without any knowledge of your group. This theme has been around long before Swap-Bot or the Internet were born.

I actually had no idea about another group like this. I made a plushie last night while crafting with my mom on skype and we were talking about plushie swaps and I had actually had someone randomly send me a flat stanley in the past so we started talking about that and then it led to the plushie I made and we went from there. I honestly haven't seen any other type like this. Please no drama over this. It is just a swap I thought of while crafting.

To address the other issues, I agree after reading your thoughts that it might be easier to do this the way you guys are talking and have the partner make/buy the plushie and take the photos and buy the souvenirs and send it to the partner. That way they get rated for their hard work. Thanks guys! I will re-word the description.

GREAT idea!

babyamy 07/28/2009 #

great idea, I put it on my watchlist.

there is also a whole website with travelling toys called www.toyvoyagers.com ;)

cauchy81sk 07/30/2009 #

Two questions:

  1. Can I buy a plushie and start the whole thing earlier? After the sign up date, the school starts and I won't travel and won't have so much free time as now. And I'd also miss some interesting things that are hapenning before.

  2. Can I write a journal instead of the letter?

Kyrian 08/ 5/2009 #

Oh, I like the journal idea that Cauchy81sk mentioned! Can we do that?

marcsgrl 08/ 9/2009 #

Hi guys, In response to your questions you can buy a plushie and start whenever you like. The plushie is senders choice so if you want to buy one or make one it is up to you. If you want to make a journal instead of writing a letter that is fine also. Just remember that you may get a letter back instead of a journal. Really you can make the swap anyway you like as long as there is a plushie, some kind of written document of itès travels, and the souvenirs. Hope this helps. :)

Thanks for the link babyamy.

marcsgrl 08/13/2009 #

I just want to let you guys know that I will be away on vacation to my cottage for the next 10-11 days and we have no internet access out there cause we are deep in the bush. I will not be in touch at all for those days. I will address any question/concerns when I return. :)

kaytd89 08/19/2009 #

It's too bad I can't do this, it sounds insanely fun!! :D

marcsgrl 08/24/2009 #
