Description:

Having Bipolar Disorder is no picnic. It is a disease that can be managed but never controlled, and never cured. This swap is for those of us who just need to know that there are others going through what we are. You will be given one partner.

For this swap I am asking that you send 1) your story. it doesn't have to be a long narrative of your life, it just needs to be a written explanation of what bipolar disorder has been like for you.

2) one quote you've found to be especially meaningful, helpful or true.

3) a book that you feel has helped you understand, manage or just plain cope with depression or bipolar disorder. optional

4) pick something you do especially well, be it poetry, crafting, cooking, picking out accessories or making a mixed cd, and give a piece of your talent to them. or if you can't think of anything simply find something from their profile that you can make/buy for them.

5) anything you might want to add to encourage or uplift your partner or express your feelings or views of manic depression

I know that this is a specific yet very ambiguous request on my part, and it may take a long time for it to get many participants, so I'm setting the date a little far out. also I know that part of this disease means you may or may not be up to the swap by the time it comes around. if you think there may be a problem pm me. we will work it out. I think most of us will understand, and I will angel for anyone who drops out at the last minute. this may be emotionally taxing, so take your time. this is about sending love and understanding.

P.S. I have gotten a lot of requests from people to join that feel they would benefit from this swap but who are not bipolar. I have okayed it, but if you have a problem with that PM me and we will find a way to make everyone happy!

After receiving a few requests I asked if anyone would object to an international swap and everyone was very open to it. Therefore this is now an international swap.

If you are considering this swap and do not have bipolar disorder but have had a history of deep depression feel free to join

rhodyart 01/26/2010 #

Do you mean that you want us to send a copy of the book we've found meaningful or just the name of the book?

bettflow09 01/26/2010 #

This swap is a great idea!!! I suffer from fibromyalgia, depression and bipolar. It is always nice to hear from someone who struggles with these conditions and I always enjoy hearing how other cope.

Not sure at this point if I will join or not. Have alot going on right now, but definately have this one in my watch until closer to time:)

kawaiibuttons 01/26/2010 #

I think this is a great swap, very encouraging!! it is definitely no picnic having this disease, it will be nice to meet others who are going through the same thing.

Candyn29 01/26/2010 #

I like this, but not sure if I can find a book, I live in a small town. Let us know. I can certainly follow through with the other stuff!

Candyn29 01/26/2010 #

Is there anyway you may considar extending the send dat by about 5-7days. For some of us the post office is not a daily event.

ScooterSissy 01/26/2010 #

wow...this is a great swap idea. about the book...i haven't read a book, but I have gotten stuff from online...

would you consider making the book optional?

kawaiibuttons 01/26/2010 #

I, too, would like it if the book was optional, I haven't really read any that has helped. Most of my info cas come from online.

Mamabemus 01/26/2010 #

This swap is a fantastic idea. I personally do not suffer from bipolar but my teenage son does. I am not going to join this swap because I cannot fulfil many of the requirements but I am glad to see it is here. Hopefully everyone who joins will be able to find some support in their partners. Hats off for hosting such a fantastic swap!!!

moowee 01/26/2010 #

I have a close friend who has struggled with bipolar for almost 30 years. I wish you all the best and I hope that you find hope and support in sharing with others.

UnfoundedHope 01/27/2010 #

okay while I really like the idea of the book and I find it to be a wonderful thing to have and would love to share, I recognize now that not everyone feels the same way. If you have a book you want to share then feel free, otherwise do not feel obligated. since the book is optional, if you have a book in mind but do not want to spend the money to purchase it, or give up your own copy, send along the title and author.

UnfoundedHope 01/27/2010 #

the send off date has been extended. thank you for your patience

vladdypatty 01/27/2010 #

thank you so much for starting this swap. i think it is an awesome idea. i put this on my watch list and will be sure to join in as the deadline approaches. i actually have depressive type schizoaffective disorder, so i have had my share of deep depressions... along with some other not so fun things. so, i am guessing it is ok if i join?

Candyn29 01/27/2010 #

maybe I send a happy thoughts book. just abook to cheer you up!

UnfoundedHope 02/ 1/2010 #

happy thoughts are always welcome! and you are welcome to join Vladdypatty

Athanwe 02/ 4/2010 #

Hello, I'm don't know if I'm bipolar but I do have mood problems. I'm from France, is it possible for me to join ?

ifluctuate 02/ 9/2010 #

i'm guessing that since it says USA/Canada that you have opened it up to Canadians too?? if not please pm me so I can drop from this swap. I suffer from Bipolar Disorder, Trichotillamania, and panic disorder. =(

UnfoundedHope 02/ 9/2010 #

Hmm Does anyone have a problem with doing an international swap? PM me with your thoughts

Gofeen 02/18/2010 #

I would be interested in this if it was international. I have been diagnosed with BPD so lots of mood changes and long standing depression and anxiety amongst other things. The jury is still out as to whether or not I am Bipolar. Could I join?

user2637 02/22/2010 #

I'm not bipolar, but do have depression and a myriad of dissociative disorders. Looking forward to the support I think this swap will offer. Thanks UnfoundedHope for hosting!

UnfoundedHope 02/22/2010 #

Gofeen. you are certainly free to join, and now this is an international swap.

IvyA 03/ 3/2010 #

This is a wonderful idea. I've learned to manage my bipolar pretty well over the past couple years but there are always off days and having someone to relate to would really help.

UnfoundedHope 03/26/2010 #

due to a couple requests I am pushing back the deadline... if you've finished it then by all means send it out!

UnfoundedHope 04/13/2010 #

Changed the deadline because I got a few emails of people stressing that they didn't make it. None of us need stress so sorry if you rushed to get yours out. New deadline is April 19th

yourkitty 12/26/2010 #

Wow, it's actually somewhat relieving to see a group like this. I live with Borderline Personality Disorder and Chronic PTSD, so depressive episodes, pyschotic episodes and anxiety attacks have been a regular part of my life since my teens. It's great to find a group full of support for these often difficult lifestyles! Nice to meet you all. :)
