Description:

For this swap, you will be making a scarf or hat to send to Crafty Angels. This organization makes and distributes scarves, hats, socks, afghans, quilts, "spa cloths" (dish cloths), to the homeless, the teen mothers, and the domestically abused individuals in the Chicago area. They also support area churches with prayer or comfort afghans or shawls.

For this swap you will crochet or knit either a scarf or hat to donate to this charity. You will take a photo of the item you are sending and send the photo to your partner. An actual photo, not an email. You will send the actual item to @crochetjunkie Make sure to include a note or card about yourself that will be attached to each item before sent. Hopefully we will be able to get a nice picture on the Crafty Angels blog showing all the items we have sent. I am going to request that anyway.

Some stipulations:

  • Be sure the scarves are at least 5 inches wide by 60 inches long. This way they can be wrapped around the neck a couple times.

  • They are really looking for "dull, drab" colors for the homeless men. These are colors like blue, green, grey, brown, etc. And the homeless men prefer solid colors. This helps stop people from wanting to steal the scarves.

  • Women's scarves can be any color. Any color a woman would like.

  • Make the hats long enough they completely cover the ears. If the recipient has to roll it up, oh well, but we want to be sure they are long enough to keep the ears warm.

  • If you want to do a hat/scarf set, you are more then welcome to!

Check out the website for any other questions about what they are looking for.

Swap particulars:

  • Must have a rating of 4.9 or higher.

  • No recent no sends without an explanation.

  • Must have at least 5 type 3 swaps you have been rated for.

Any questions, pm me.

I've got a burgundy scarf started already. I'll get it done asap. It'll be simple with just two colors, I think.

I have one I completed for my husband that he doesn't like. So the charity gets it! LOL

It's a solid olive green crocheted in half doubles (my favorite stitch!). I think it would be nice and boring for a dude. LOL

What an AWESOME swap idea :) !!

Ohh, it would be so cool if you could get a photo of all the items together before you send to the Angels...would be cool to see what ended up being donated :)

I am trying to crochet a scarf BEFORE I join. I can crochet basic things, I have even done an ami cupcake...Scarf should easy, right? Well, My tension sucks - so I have to crochet very slowly lol. Anyways, sorry for all the babble...I will join if I am able to complete a decent scarf.

This is a terrific swap idea. Will you be keeping a list of who you have rec'd goods from? Or will we rate based on the photo?

Thanks!

I will do it both ways...if someone doesn't send, I'll be sure to contact that person's partner and let them know I never received.

I think a picture showing all that is being sent is an awesome idea! I will definately do that!!

Amandalee...pming you.

AND COMMENTS ARE ALWAYS OKAY

Maybe the photo of the donated things could be sent to Rachel and she'll put it on the SB Blog.

crochetjunkie 01/29/2010 #

That's a great idea! I will definately do that, @RobinT

@crochetjunkie is that your scarf in the photo? Do you have a pattern you can share? Thanks!

crochetjunkie 02/16/2010 #

yes it is my scarf, and I thik I can find the pattern somewhere. I altered the original pattern to do the border. The pattern is just a single row of a mile-a-minute afghan. Those mile-a-min afghans are usually done up in a series of scarf sized peices and i just made the one and added a border. I'll pm you with it!
