Description:

In honor of the new Sherlock Holmes movie, Let's do a CSI type swap!

This idea from @ladystephanie .. Choose a mystery novel with a who-dun-it theme (not horror, please). Send your partner bits and pieces of evidence as it occurs in the book.

What kind of evidence? Little brown envelopes with fragments of...paint? wood? clay? Maybe a baggie of pine needles found in the trunk of the suspects car. A receipt from...a pharmacy, a grocery store, a hotel. A 'photo' of the crime scene (can be handmade). Most importantly, create and send the Detective's notebook with the list of suspects and other clues. (Try to make it look like your detective created it, to help your partner figure out whatdetective it might be)

(*** NOTE: here I have edited) This is the challenge... to discover the identity of the book, and the sleuth! Sending a copy of the book is not required. You can wrap the name of the book and the author, as well as the detective or sleuth, in an envelope, or brown paper, or whatever you think appropriate, labelled so your partner knows it contains the solution!! OR you may include here a copy of the book as well. This swap may not be EQUAL in monetary value for everyone. We started out saying NOT to send the book, but I decided if the sender wants to include a copy of the book, they should. (As I DO!! :) But this time around it is not a requirement.

Send as much as you like, sender's choice... let's say a minimum of three clues plus detective notebook (no specifics on the notebook; again it's sender's choice. If you want to share a great idea for this, please do!) Write the title of the book and author's name in some type of sealed solution-envelope, with or without a copy of the book (I'm picturing the Clue game here! :)

Let me know if this timeline doesn't work...

Thanks for hosting this one. The solution in the sealed envie is genius! Hope we have some sleuths in our group who are up to the challenge!

Do you think we could make it sign up 2/28 and send 3/28? I know that not much of a difference, but we will need to read the book and decide what to incorporate. I read in 15 minute snippets, and it takes me a week or two to get through a book.

hollycm6 02/10/2010 #

Absolutely! It was going to be really pushing it for me as well, actually, I was just worried about irritating you guys by making it too far out there. I'll go ahead and add another week at least...

hollycm6 02/10/2010 #

I've got the 30th as the send date, but I am not opposed to pushing it back into April, either, since we have to choose a book and read it. Let me know everone thinks as you sign up.

LadyStephanie 02/13/2010 #

I'm book searching....will join when I pick a good one :)

hollycm6 02/14/2010 #

I haven't chosen either. Still reading like three books for other swaps!! :)

hollycm6 02/17/2010 #

Well, I chose, then REchose... this one is who-done-it, my first was more espionage! AND... I just ordered a copy of the book for my partner. You (whoever you are) will love it. :)

LadyStephanie 02/22/2010 #

You are so generous with your swaps, Holly. Still searching...haven't given up yet!

LadyStephanie 02/26/2010 #

Holly, should I get a copy of the book to send too? Originally the swap says "don't send the book", but I like that idea.

hollycm6 02/27/2010 #

I have edited this swap so we CAN send the book but don't need to. I know that makes some of the packages worth more than others, but you are not required to send the book if it is too difficult or you just can't. I hope this is okay with everyone?

Doulton 03/ 3/2010 #

I would like to send clues before March 30 and then have the option to send the book a few days later. I think that this might take a lot of time because I will need to select a book and read it with care. I would plead understanding if people are slightly late on this one. It might take purchasing some unusual items or really thinking outside the box.

That being said, it's a fascinating swap concept!

We can add another week or two, if no one objects?

I think sending the clues first and the book second is a fun idea... I don't see why you couldn't do that. Be sure to mark the packages 1 and 2, in case something crazy happens with delivery!! :)

LadyStephanie 03/24/2010 #

No objections to an extention here! I've read my book and have to "collect" my clues.

hollycm6 03/24/2010 #

Ok, edited to April 9th.
