Swap categories: Crafts  Craft Supplies
Number of people in swap:19
Location:Regional - US only

Last day to signup/drop:April 23, 2010
Date items must be sent by:May 3, 2010
Number of swap partners:1
Description:

IMPORTANT: Before you sign up for this swap, please be aweare that media mail can take a VERY long time to arrive. Please do not give your partner a 3 unless it has been over a month after the send date with no communication. Please see the important information in the comment section about media mail if you are unfamiliar with it.

Now the fun stuff: This swap is to pass one craft book on to one partner. If you are like me, you get all caught up in a new craft, and buy the books and supplies for it, but then you move on from that craft. Then what to do with the books? Well, this is an opportunity to pass on that craft book to someone else and get a book in return. This is sender's choice, so please don't ask for specific craft books or subjects.

The book can be hard back or paper back, and should be sold as a book, not a magazine. It can be a thinnish book as long as it is not just a magazine. If you would purchase it from the book section of your craft store, and not the magazine rack, then it counts. It should have cost you at least 9.99 new (or be a 9.99 book that you got on sale). It should not be too worn out but used books are fine if they don't have writing, etc. in them.

I am making this US only so we can use "media mail" (what used to be called book rate). Since this is media mail, you won't be able to put anything else inside the envelope except the book (not even a letter or card if I understand correctly) so please make sure you write the swap name and your user name on the outside (you may be able to include a business/swap card inside the book, but I am not sure about that, so to be on the safe side, put your user name on the envelope).

Experienced swappers with at least 5 package type swaps under their belt only. Must have at least a 4.9 rating with no ones or threes in the past six months. If you have a really good reason why you should be an exception, please message me.

I think this is a great idea..... because, like you, it is definitely a case of... ok, did that, on to the next thing.... ; )

Oh yeah, I have lots of Craft Books. In fact, I put some up on ETSY just to reduce what I Have.

I want to join. I am rather new but have 5 package swaps and almost a thousand craft books - some even have duplicates. I guess I liked the book so well I bought it twice (unknowingly, of course). Can I join?

Oops! Never mind, maybe next time. I did not look at the dates correctly. I'll be away.

This is awesome, even though I only have a few craft books I don't use. Can we combine two books to equal the dollar amount? What about older books from back when you could get a good lunch for a dollar?

Also, media mail accepts all paper, bound or unbound, as well as CDs, tapes, and other forms of electronic media. So, you could send an unbound manuscript by media mail, for instance. Also, media mail can take as long as a month to get to where it's going, so you might want to point that out early in the description so that people don't get needless 3's. Media mail is really for things like bulk book purchases/transfers or turning in library books from afar, and they just let it stockpile until there's enough to send out in a cheap shipment together. It is also subjected to rougher treatment than normal mail (especially temp extremes). They will suspect you are using media mail for the wrong thing if you send a super flowery decorated envelope, so you might want to stick to plain manila =)

Thanks feedmeacat for the awesome info. I am going to add it to the description.

As to the question of combining multiple books to reach the dollar amount...personaly I would prefer not, but what do others think?

pearlie 04/10/2010 #

It might be cheaper in the long run to send it in a flat rate priority envelope if it's really heavy.

I would prefer to keep the swap as you set it up for the dollar amount.

I can join if allowed. I'll be away, but I can take my book with me, and mail it when a partner is assigned (if allowed to join). I really need to give away some of my books. Of course, I'll be getting another, but it'll probably (hopefully) be something I don't already have or have 2 of. Just let me know Thanks.

Hi everyone. I apologize for the delay in assigning partners. I got called out of town for my sister's surgery and wasn't able to get online on the 23rd. I am assigning them now. Thanks for your patience and understanding!

linburo100... I hope your sister is ok and it was wonderful that you were able to go to her.
