Description:

Thanks to @melzenitram for allowing me to make an international version of her swap. She has a USA only one running if you are interested.

Moving on... Lets have fun with this!

Step One: buy a composition type journal, the sturdier the better. Step Two: Have fun with the entries, remember to CREATE AND DESTROY!!

Each entry must be at least one page, please do all of the items listed below, not neccessarley in order, and more than one theme can be applied to the pages. You will create a journal, wreck it, and send it out to your partner... so they can enjoy and hopefully have a peak into your thoughts and creative process. CARRY IT EVERYWHERE...experiment, follow the directions.

This is not for the squeemish. These journals will be DIRTY, and messy.

Themes:

  1. write your name in white. write your name illegibly, backward, in huge letters or teeny letters, however you like. Fill the whole page. Include your address and email if you like.

  2. add your own page numbers

  3. crack the spine

  4. stand on a page, stomp on it, jump up and down, wipe your feet on it
  5. pour, spill, drip, spit, or fling your coffee, tea or whatever you're drinking onto it!
  6. Poke holes
  7. draw fat lines with a pencil pressing as hard as possible, if you break the pencil feel free to glue on the broken bits!
  8. this page is for hand prints, use ink or dirt, your whole hand or just finger prints...
  9. colour the entire page
  10. make a target and throw something at it... write what you threw at it
  11. glue found objects into it... stuff you found outside (garbage, ticket stubs, receipts, popsicle sticks, etc)
  12. scratch using a sharp object
  13. do some pencil rubbings
  14. scribble wildly, violently, recklessly
  15. tear it, rip it, cut it
  16. glue, staple or tape pages together
  17. draw lines while in motion (on the bus, walking, on a train, etc)
  18. document your dinner, write about it, splatter some food on it, smear your drink on it, use it as a napkin
  19. chew on the page! or have your pet chew it.
  20. crumple the page
  21. eat something colourful and then lick the page
  22. write one word over and over and over
  23. climb up high and drop the journal, who cares what it lands on or in! (hopefully not poop though!)
  24. do a really ugly drawing
  25. place sticky things on this page (stickers, gum, tacky, glue, rubber cement, etc)
  26. doodle while talking on the phone, watching tv, whatever!
  27. place stickers you find on fruit and veggies on this page
  28. cover the page using only office supplies
  29. rub dirt on this page
  30. use this page as a test page for pens, markers, paint...

  34. this page is for your grocery lists
  35. collect the stamps off the packages and mail you receive, glue them to this page

  41. ask a friend or family member to do something destructive to this page
  42. write carelessly about anything
  43. glue random items here (stuff you found under the couch cushion, on the floor, outside, etc)
  44. tear out the page, put it in your pocket, put it through the wash, stick it back in
  45. take a shower and bring your journal with you!
  46. collect pocket lint, and dust bunnies, glue to this page
  47. trace your hand

  56. write with the pen in your mouth
  57. document your internal monologue
  58. hide a secret message somewhere in the journal
  59. sleep with the journal, document the experience afterward
  60. close the journal and write something on the page edges
  61. write a list of more ways to wreck your journal

if you still have pages left over afterward, do whatever you want with them!

You must have a rating of 4.7+ to join this swap. YOu will have a month to get this done, you can start now or wait till partners are assigned. If you want in on this swap but you are a newbie or have a lower rating, pm me and I'll see if I can acomadate (sp?) you. I don't want to have to angel this swap, so please join only if you plan on finishing it! This is an international swap, and shipping might get expensive.

I love the idea, just be careful with this because ALL of those are taken directly from the book "wreck this journal" so technically you're posting something completely copyrighted. I'd suggest coming up with some different ones just to protect yourself

hydro75 06/11/2010 #

Love this idea, but completing all 61 items seems a little unrealistic... watching for now.

BeverlyBling 06/11/2010 #

I love the idea of doing this because I'm training myself to create in a less structured way...but all 61 items? I'm not keen on receiving something that's been licked or chewed or contains swearing. Is it possible to make a few changes to the rules? I'm watching for now.

BirdGuhl 06/11/2010 #

Great Idea!!! will def be joining this one soon. I don't think 61 items is too much most of them aren't going to take very long ie..crack the spine, poke some holes, crumple the page lol

janeengland 06/11/2010 #

take a shower- i only have a bath so what would i do for that one?

Jadegreen83 06/14/2010 #

I think that jumping on it and spilling stuff is a bit much. Who wants a dirty journal?

ladycregga 06/15/2010 #

I think that this is a fab idea. I would ask that there be no swearing in the journal I might get but other then that have at her!! To Janeengland take it into the bath with you soap bubbles "pressed" between the pages would be fun. You could always start the journal by dropping it into the bath!!

As the description says, it's a "dirty" swap so if you are squeemish please don't join. I do realize these are taking from "wreck this journal" but I did skip some of the stuff, and also added different things to it... it's not EXACTLY the same. =) Thanks to those who are joining!

I have the most perfect journal for this swap, one that my dog chewed on when he was a puppy but it is lined. All pages have lines so I was thinking of painting/drawing on every page to hide those lines...Is that O.K?I also want to "collage or alter the front cover but I am wondering if it is a good idea because I am embellishing something that is suposed to look like a wreck. Should this be about a simple 61 page wrecked journal or is it O.K if it is almost an artist book with paint and collage in every page apart of the rule to follow?

Mialee66 06/19/2010 #

I would love to see a "clean" version of this....no licking , no food no dirt just alter and destroy with paints, inks, glue etc.

ifluctuate 06/21/2010 #

collaging, painting and drawing on the pages is fine!! be creative anyway you want.

If you don't have a shower, how about dunking it in a swimming pool, the bath tub or taking it outside in a rain storm? I am going to START mine by getting it wet and then letting it dry out before doing the rest =)

ifluctuate 06/21/2010 #

Mialee66 - feel free to create your own version of this swap!! and let me know so I can join! =)

I had no idea how difficult doing this would be. It goes against everything I believe and yet it also feels quite liberating
