Description:

Christmas is soon here. Or, not. But really, it's not that far away either! And I am Christmas crazy. You are probably too, since you are reading this ;P

In this swap you will have 4 partners. To your partners you send 6 wrapped presents with ribbon on them (so they are possible to hang somewhere) for their advent calendar. This way you will have a gift to open every day until Christmas, from 4 different places in the world.

This is a THEMED version of this swap. The theme is; Scrapbooking. Anything that can be used for scrapbooking goes, but do not send just one brad or one button, this is a gift, give like you want to receive! You can send the same 6 gifts to all 4 of your partners buying bulk might be a good idea =)

Why run this swap now? Well, I want to run many, I'm absolutely crazy about advent calendars, and can't have enough. Some of you might like to join many too. Some will be themed, some not. This swap is open to anyone that has more than 25 ratings of 5 and a well filled out profile.

(had to edit the sign up date and send date, pushed them back a few days to fit my own schedule)

is this a themed or not themed swap? in one part you said it is themed and then further down it says it is not themed. just wanted to double check on that?

Lexidh 07/22/2010 #

This is not the first one, and it is themed (copy/paste is not a good idea every time ;P).

patumma 07/24/2010 #

can you please give some examples f what is sufficient for one gift? as in how much needs to be in each? thank you!

Lexidh 07/27/2010 #

That depends so much on the size and quality of things! This is 24 -gifts-, not 24 items.

grandmaroro 07/27/2010 #

Samples of gifts: decorated and filled small matchboxes, any small, handmade stuffie, buttons? - at least 20 would be my suggestion. same for brads or eyelets but 10 to 12 nice charms, ribbons could be 4-6 one-yard pieces, fibers - same as ribbons. Anyone agree or disagree? Would appreciate hearing more on this subject. I've given myself an idea for this swap --- lol --- .

Today I received my first set of gifts for the first swap. Thanks lexidh,

Forgot to sign up yesterday - now I'm in. Does anyone make the colored wire embellishments? Those would be great for a scrapbooking theme. I love things that are "different, odd, unusual". This is kind of like talking to myself - not the first time. LOL Bits of lace or crochet trim also are fun. Just trying to think of something more than paper and stickers. I would hope that each package would contain something different.

thank you grandmaroro that is the kind of info i was looking for. So say a sheet of stickers a couple blank card and envies for embellishing etc would be suitable for 1 gift?

grandmaroro 07/29/2010 #

I don't know why my little brain works like this, but as a "gift", I would use four card blanks and envies. A full sheet of stickers is fine --- but the idea of sending what's left on a sheet after removing the best ones is just tacky. Yes, I have received some of those. Onesies are quite acceptable in sticker swaps IF they fit the requirements. LOL Oh - stamped images are great too, especially if they are the larger ones (six of those) and if they are embossed, that deserves a hug as well as a heart. Glad to help Patumma......

grandmaroro: great suggestions =) I'm sure everyone will do their best to make 24 great gifts!

patumma 07/31/2010 #

Perhaps it is a good thing I wont be able to sign up for this swap after all. If i sent as Grandmaroro suggested it would cost well over $100 for one swap and that is before postage! And if my partners were international it would end up $50 +++ for postage! I guess I always thought advent gifts were a little less expensive. Good thing I checked I wouldn't want to disappoint a partner. I do appreciate the input! Thank you for the help! ;)

toothteri 07/31/2010 #

I agree with patumma- what grandmaroro said would be nice but seems like a lot when you are sending 24 of them to international locations. Canadian postage is very expensive- may have to reconsider if this is what is expected. Do not want people to be disappointed.

Yeah, I was really looking forward to this swap. I guess when I think of advent calendar presents they are smaller gifts since you get one each day. I just don't think I can afford to buy 24 larger gifts like the ones that were suggested. But have a wonderful swap to all those doing it!! :)

zurdoswifey 08/ 3/2010 #

I just did this swap for the one that wasn't themed and I didn't spend a fortune on postage... I think I was right around $8.00 for postage and some of the packages were heavy... I don't know why these theme would end up costing over $100.00 and additional postage... scrapbooking items are small and lightweight so I don't see postage for me being over $6.00 for all my shipping and 3 of my partners are outside of US....

Lexidh 08/ 8/2010 #

One hundred dollars!? INSANE. Seriously, this is not an expensive swap. You send 6 gifts to 4 people, and things like stickers, stamped images, rubons, ribbon, charms, chipboard, stamps, buttons, paper and so on is not heavy, and not that expensive either. This is supposed to be something nice, not a huge and money sucking affair.

sosiejude 08/ 8/2010 #

i have done one of these last year.they are by no means expensive to ship.i live in uk and shipping for big enevie is no more than £3 .which is nothing for airmail well i dont think as that envie holds alot.I agree with lexidh it should be fun not think of $100's for postage!!! .Lets have fun!

toothteri 08/ 9/2010 #

My packages from Canada were $7 each to ship- for some of us, that is a lot for one swap.

grandmaroro 08/21/2010 #

My intent was not to overwhelm anyone, only to make suggestions. Amounts were up to each individual person. I will not be participating in any more of these swaps, so please don't stay away because of something that I have said.

I will admit that my trip to the post office on Monday produced a 48 inch long receipt for a total of $48.89. That was three swaps - one had five partners, one had four, and one had twenty. Gifts went to Norway, Australia, Canada, Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and all over the U.S. Why would I do that? Because I love it. I join the swaps that I want to and I send what I want to that fits the requirements. Everyone should do the same.
