Description:
For this swap you will fill an A5 (ish) journal with random contents. You could write, paint, collage, art journal, stick in found items, a photo of the contents of your bag, draw a pattern or zentangle... Write or illustrate your thoughts or a poem. Document your life, tell a story, colour, write your favourite quotes. Put some "you" into the book. If you make a zine, you could put a copy in, you could make an envelope page and put a surprise inside. These are all suggestions. It's your journal, your randomosity. The point of this being a random journal is that you don't fill all the pages with the same thing. Use nice text, like letraset or a stencil. Use deco tape, draw, try something new, a material or technique. The journal has no limits except your own creativity. Your journal should be around A5 size, which is roughly 7 x 5"/21 x 14cm. You can use the large moleskine cahier which is fractionally narrower at 13cm wide. Or you could make your own journal. Why not choose some random papers and bind them yourself, sew them, tape them, staple them or take them to your copy shop and they will spiral them together for you. The moleskine cahier has 40 pages/80 sides, so this is a minimum requirement for all journals. If you are buying a different type of journal, consider the amount of pages to ensure you are able to fill it, as no-one wants to receive a half-filled book. Due to recent flaking and late sending within the group, the swap requirements are now higher for the safe swapping of the committed swappers amongst us that have been repeatedly let down and left journal-less: All participants must have completed a journal swap within the group and must have sent that swap on time. Also no 1's or 3's allowed. Everyone will be checked and there will be no exceptions.

Yes, you need a book with minimum 80 sides to fill, or bigger if you prefer

I dropped only because I am worried about being overwhelmed with journals at the moment. I received two different "bookies" from two friends, both wanting me to fill some pages.

I'm walking the line here, because this seems like such a cool swap.

I just like the thought that random can mean anything, so many of the journal swaps I have done lately have had "rules" - I was in the mood for freedom, I love the thought of revolutionise taping in random bits of paper LOL

I have a couple of questions. My favourite type of journal is 12,5x19 cm, is that an okay size? And could I do the pages one-sided and not fill both the front and back, or would that make it half-filled? For some reason I prefer doing just one side of each page. This journal has 96 pages (I mean 96 sheets, 292 sides) so there would still be enough.

I'm really excited about the idea of a journal swap free from prompts or themes. I'm a little apprehensive about joining due to the relatively short amount of time, but it is tempting...

Basilika, that journal is fine. The measurements above are the minimum size, and you are fine with the pages too as you have lots to fill. Hope you join, come and play! It's surprising how quickly they fill up once you get started.

Thank you for hosting this swap, @secretterrabite Since I am a writer as well an artist, and enjoy a medium that combines the two, I really appreciate journal swaps that include writing.
