Camera and Flat Shirley Swap International

Hey FC: This sounds like fun! One little question/suggestion: Rather than sending a disposable camera with our Flat (Shirley), could we not just buy one and keep it to use for the pics we take? I am not suggesting that we be allowed to use digital cameras, just that, by not sending each other the same thing, it would save on postage. Thx! Terry

Hi Terry, Yes your right that sounds like a great idea.Of course i hadn't thought of that.So everyone do please just purchase your own camera and keep it.Then send it along with the flat Shirley you received back to your partner.

You can use any template you like.If you want share your template with others.That particular template is the Flat Shirley(Stanley)one.

question again about the cameras. each person buys a camera.they keep teh camera to take photos of their partners flat shirley. they send the camera back to their partner. their partner develops the pics? i have heard of films being damaged through the xrays and security customs etc. so do we develop the pics of the partners flat shirley and then use the photos to embellish a journal or book to send back. is that right> i really want to join in this but i am jsut a tad tired and cant read between the lines today . sorry for being stupid.

ok me again, sorry, we get a flat shirley, we buy a book or do something to send back with shirley explaining all her adventures. seeing as i am overseas can i just ask that i pay to develop my pics and ask my partner to pay to develop mine to return then i dont have to worry about the pics not working out. i am wondering whether you would consider the option of digital pics. we can print them at home that way or take the thumbdrive to a big store and get them printed for only 25c. the beauty of the digital is that you can see if the pic turns out or not there and then. i am a bit scared to by a disposable and then take it to develop only to find that the pics arent any good. sorry to be painful but could you think on those things. just wondering. not trying to take over or boss you about.i just love the idea of the swap!!!!

tkoufus:Please see above.I think if you have a digital camera that would be a great idea.Keep in mind though that your partner may not.there is no way to guarantee that the photos we receive will be good.

(Just thinking out loud) The bottom line is that we would like to get back our flat Shirley and the pix, however that works out for each set of partners. I think I will just talk to my partner and work out between us how we would like to do it.

TerryF-Yes thats the bottom line.Get the flat shirley sent out on 9/14 and then return the one you receive back to your partner on 10/14....

You know what? It is getting kind of complicated. Would you ammend the original swap to reflect how this swap will happen.

funkychicken has 3 days after the sign up deadline to check out everyone and assign partners. If she doesn't do it by today, the system will automatically assign partners for her. You will be able to see who your partner is by tomorrow.

I am a little confused re how we will be rating/rated here. I send my Flat Terry to my partner, then they rate me on my own doll that I am getting back anyway? If so, there is no incentive for them to return her and the pics because I cannot rate them. Wouldn't it be better to make this a 2 part swap so that I can also rate the person who returns my doll and the pics? I understand that this would mean setting up a series of private swaps, but at least that way we can get rated for both parts of the swap. Am I making this a lot more complicated than it needs to be? If so, please give me a slap and explain to my pea brain! lol Thx!

Thats correct.Do keep in mind though that your partner may not have a digital camera.We wont be rating on quality of photo's, though I'm sure all of us will do our best.

"Hi Crystal: You have not marked your swap as sent yet. Has your Flat Crystal been mailed to me? I am leaving the country Sept. 29 for 2 weeks so, if I do not receive it before then, I will not be able to take the photos and complete the swap for you. Thx. Terry"

not received my flat (insert name ever). And i got confused so only just posted mine within the last week.

The mailing deadline date is not until October 14th--so you may not see flatties until up to two weeks after that if someone mails them that day and you are overseas from them--especially if you are sending a package with a camera in it, too. Lets have a little patience folks!

Terry, I'd guess that if you receive your package from Crystal when you get back home in two weeks, you'll still be ahead of the game, though too bad you can't take pics with it while on your trip!

I mailed mine early to Linz in England last week, and she hasn't received it yet, but it may take a few more days. If you don't receive it, Linz, by a week from now, just let me know and I'll send you another.

twobluecrows, the swap says you have to send your Flat Shirley out to your partner on Sept. 14 and you have to send your partner's back to them with the pictures* by Oct. 14. So no, there will not be time.

fluffywelshsheep--sorry! and--I love Wales! I made a trip there in 1989 and loved every bit of that beautiful country! I rented a car at Gatwick and drove straight to Cardiff and spent the next ten days driving all over from bottom to top, Hay on Wye, Aberystwyth, Pen y Pas near Snowdon, Conway, Dolwyddellan, Caernarvon and everything in between. Someday I'll go back again. I've been to England and Scotland, too, but still prefer Wales.:) Cyn

I am so discouraged by this swap. My dad died and my mother was rushed to surgery five days after the funeral and then surgery the following week. I was able to get out my Flat Crystal and also took pictures. Yes I was late, and I am sorry and apologize. But I did keep up with writing and Terry sent back my Flat Crystal with no pictures and even sent the note I sent her back. I just can't understand this rudeness and hardness. These swaps are for pleasure and giving. Not trying to create more pain for a person. I would like this message to get out there to all you swappers. Please be caring and forgiving. The Lord will give back to you even if you do not receive something or receive something late. We all have very difficult lives and these attitudes are rediculous. Thank you to you who designed this swap. It was cute and alot of fun. I just wish I had somethijng to remember it by. Thank you, Crystal

I cannot let this comment go unanswered. I think my record here on SB speaks for itself (as opposed to mamarose's).

mamarose did not send her swap to me by the deadline, and made no effort to contact me about it. I had to contact her to find out was going on. (In fact, the swap coordinator had warned me that I might have problems with her). At the time I explained to mamarose that I was leaving the country soon for a few weeks and that, if I did not get her Flat Crystal before I left, I would not have time when I returned to take the pictures (I had a number of other swaps coming up that I was already committed to when I returned).

I did not get her swap until after I returned from holidays and had to return it to her undone. (At least she got her Flat Crystal back - I have never received mine back.)

What can I say? It is unfortunate that this has happened, and, had mamarose simply pmd me right up front to let me know that she would be late, all of this could probably have been avoided.

Wait, get this. I eventually got something back. I did get my flat self back ... and the camera which I assume has the pictures on it. No album or note of explanation. Since were not able to rate the people who actually sent us something, this won't show up as a negative on her profile. I guess I'll have to take it to the forums. I'm bummed. I worked hard on the album I sent out and I was looking forward to seeing mine. :{

I will never join another swap like this where there is no way to rate the second part.
