Description:

In this swap you will knit or crochet something with plarn. Plarn is plastic yarn made from shopping bags. If you have never heard of it or want to learn how to make it click here

Because this is a time consuming swap you have a month from the sign up deadline to craft your project. You can go ahead and start crafting your project before the sign up deadline as well.

Please make something nice that your partner can actually use. Some good ideas for plarn projects are bags/purses, placemats, rugs, etc. To see images of projects click here

This swap is for people who have done at least 3 type 3 swaps and have been rated for them. If you have any 1s or 3s and want to join this swap please pm me and explain them. I don't want people being flaked on after they spent time on this project.

I hope this swap inspires you to become more eco-friendly. I enjoy making plarn projects and thinking about all the bags I am keeping out of the landfill by using them!

I love plarn, too;but find it hard to work with! I'm going to watch for now and think about this one.Does anyone else have a difficult time working with plarn or have tips on how to use it?

Do you make plarn by cutting the bags vertically or horizontally? I cut them vertically and tied them together to begin with. It made my plarn very difficult to work with then I found the link I have posted above that tells you how to make plarn by cutting the bags in horizontal segments and looping the pieces together. Hope this helps!

Oh hey, awesome! I was totally thinking about making a swap like this :)

I have this plarn-y yarn, which is plarn plied with polyfil I spun, would that still be ok, or does it need to be just plarn? I have some plarn as well, so now worries if it's not ok :)

I don't mind if you ply it with polyfil, as long as you are keeping bags out of the landfill, I am happy :) !

I have been looking to exchange plarn but have been unable to find a place to do it. If anyone is interested in a straight exchange let me know. I am not in need of a particular color, just something interesting. Thanks!

I have never made anything with plarn, but came across a site awhile back that tells how this makes super warm and dry sleeping mats for the homeless. I took a look at the link and some of the things that have been made. I was shocked to see a dishcloth made with plarn??? Doesn't look like to me that a dishcloth made with plastic bags would be absorbent at all, lol. Has anyone ever used a plarn dishcloth before???

The link made so much more sense than the way I have been doing it! Thank-you! I think I will give it a go after all!
