This swap is for US participants only. If you collect pressed pennies, or would like to start, this would be a great way to add a few new pennies to your collection. Pressed pennies, for anyone who isn't sure, are pennies that have been run through machines, usually at tourist spots, and have a design pressed into them. For this swap, each participant will have 2 partners and will send each partner 2 different pennies. You can send duplicates from you own collection or go out and press some especially for this swap. It usually cost 50 cents per penny, so you will be spending a total of $2.04 plus postage. Postage will be 52 cents if you mail them in an envelope. See the discussion post below for information about mailing the pennies. Thanks to Bubba Smooth for the input. If you participate, please try to use pennies that are dated 1981 or older. This is due to the amount of zinc used in newer pennies. This isn't a requirement, but is appreciated by most pressed penny collectors. As a window clerk with the US Postal Service, I can't help but point out that to mail two pressed pennies in a regular envelope (as described above) should actually cost you 52 cents, not 39 ... reason being that the pennies (flattened or not) are rigid and non-machinable. There is a 13-cent surcharge for items like this that are less than one ounce. Above that weight, and the regular rates apply (no surcharge).

You can try to go cheap and avoid the 13-cents extra, but I wouldn't advise it ... one of three things will happen:

Your envelope gets returned to you so you can add 13 cents and remail it
Your envelope arrives at its destination, and your swap partner will be expected to pay the 13 cents
Your envelope gets run through the processing machine at the mail plant with all the regular letters, and the rigid metal of the pressed pennies either gets jammed in the tight roller and belt system of the machine (and thusly destroyed) OR it makes it through the machine but bends and twists the pennies in such a fashion that your swap partner will not be pleased.

Not trying to be a "joy-killer" with this long post, but ... I'm just saying: spring for that extra 13-cents to ensure that your partner gets some good looking pressed pennies, and your Swap-bot rating doesn't take a nose-dive.

I did not see your swap at all and started my own (smashed, elongated, pressed, etc). Can I tell the people that signed up for mine to switch over and sign up for yours, and then I'll close mine? I don't have very many people. In any case, I'm signing up for yours.

I've got my pennies picked out and ready to send! I was on a business trip yesterday and made a side trip to smash a couple extra pennies for the swap.

If you haven't sent your pennies, please do it today! More than half haven't sent their's yet. If you sent them already, please make sure you click on the "I sent my items" link. If, for some reason, you can't get your pennies out in time, please contact your partners and let them know when they can expect to receive their pennies. Have a great day! Joel
