Description:

This is a swap for members who are just beginning to learn certain skills. Specific tutorials are provided so that everyone is making basically the same simple item. I don't want new sewers to become discouraged when they send something very basic and then receive something very different and/or, shall we say, "much more advanced" in return. So for these beginner swaps I would ask that everyone follow the tutorials provided. All NFS members are welcome to join, but please keep in mind that this may be your partner's first effort - so please be kind when rating and providing feedback. Thx. (";)

For this swap, the sender will choose and make one of the following" needlebooks:

Little Letter OR Felt Bird

I am providing 2 choices because the Little Letter Needlebook (suggested in the NFS Beginner Swaps thread) is a little more complicated than I would normally choose for a beginner swap. If you feel up to the challenge, please feel free to make the Little Letter one. If it is a bit too intimidating for some of you, then you will find the Little Bird one easier to do.

If you do the Little Bird one, you may also play with the front page design if you wish. Edited 12/9: PLEASE NOTE: For those of you not into metric, or not using a printer, the outside needlebook rectangle is about 8.5" x 3.5" and the inside rectangle is about 7.5" x 2.5". This will give you a needlebook about 4.25" x 3.5" when folded closed. So as long as your needlebook is approximately that size, that would be fine.

Felt Bird Needlebook tute

Please do not make requests below as this is sender's choice.

Please note that I will need 5 participants (not including myself) for this swap to go ahead.

If you have any questions, please pm me as I do not check my swaps every day. Thx.

Have fun!

Can we us a different felt shape on the front of the felt needlebook or does it need to be the bird? This is a fun swap!

From the swap description:

"If you do the Little Bird one, you may also play with the front page design if you wish."

This means that you are free to change the bird applique to something else that you think your partner might like better based on reading their profile. (";)

I have a question about the Little Bird notebook: It says enlarge it til the largest rectangle is 21.5 cm long but I don't have access to a printer so won't be printing a template.

I wondered if there was a recommended measurement for the notebook or should I just wing it?

I figure I'll be sending in an envelope that is 6X9 if I join up, so I could just work with something smaller than that for shipping purposes. Thoughts?

Wow, what a pain that is - you would have to print it at about 200% to get the right measurement, and even then it would be a bit off - and off the page too! lol

Good eye dear - thx for bringing this to my attention early.

Let's see: 21.5 cm is about 8.5". That means the outside needlebook rectangle would be about 8.5" x 3.5" and the inside rectangle would be about 7.5" x 2.5". This would give you a needlebook about 4.25" x 3.5" when folded closed.

So as long as your needlebook is approximately that size, that would be fine.

Okay! Thank you for answering that! I've made one as a practice run and the measurements happen to fit approximately and its adorable so I will be using it for the swap. I'm going to take a photo of it tomorrow so I can show everyone!

It has a penguin on it! That's the "little bird" I chose.
