Hello!
I'm Crystal - American Sign Language interpreter and crafter. My craft of choice tends to be crochet, but I've branched out into a lot of other little visual art things with paper, paint, stickers, etc. I used to get involved in big swaps at Ravelry, and after a few years of hiatus, I returned to find the swapping groups mostly inactive or significantly reduced. I went in search of another swapping outlet, and here I am! I'm excited to get to know some folks and send some happiness out into the world.
Knitted Things (because I am a relatively novice knitter, so I super appreciate the skill I don’t have), and crocheted things (because I’m a pretty solid crocheter, and appreciate the work that goes into it). Other crafts - go nuts! I love seeing others' creativity!
Fiber Craft-Related accessories/items I enjoy: Lobster claw stitch markers, notions pouch, metal tapestry needles for weaving in ends, Susan Bates hooks (I prefer their flatter shape over Boye’s pointy one) - I tend to use G and H most often, but any size is welcome.
Other Crafty Items: I enjoy being creative with paper crafts and stickers, so those are always welcome. I do have a pretty big sticker collection, so don't be surprised if your package has some extra stickers that have snuck their way in.
I'm a sci-fi nerd, so most of my viewing habits follow that trend. Doctor Who, Firefly, Star Trek (TOS and TNG), and Star Wars are all favorites.
Studio Ghibli has a special place in my heart, most especially My Neighbor Totoro.
For books, favorite authors include Carl Sagan, Stephen King, and A. Lee Martinez.
My music taste is fairly eclectic, but lately listening to a lot of classic rock (1960's-80's) and synth wave.
Another not so guilty pleasure is playing RPGs. D&D (of course), Doctor Who: Adventures in Time and Space, and Candela Obscura are my games of choice, but I'm always open to joining in/learning about others. I have a pretty good collection of dice, but can one ever really have enough?
Tea: My favorites tend to be floral or cinnamon-y.
Snacks: Dagashi! As long as it's not a seafood based snack (see below), I am fascinated and delighted by cheap little Japanese snacky things.
If you're considering sending consumables as an extra, I love tea, sweets, and little local treats that I wouldn't normally see here, but! There are two important things to bear in mind, please:
1) I have a seafood allergy, so things like shrimp chips are a no-go. 2) I live in a hot, southern US state. Much as I love chocolate, it is unlikely to survive the journey :(
Related to Fiber Arts: Not a fan of pink, avocado green, mustard yellow, burnt orange, or of highly variegated yarn (self-striping is awesome, though). Just not my cup of tea. Since I’m in Florida, particularly heavy knits and chunky wool yarn tend to be tough to use.
Other: Please no items that are heavily religious in nature.
