About Me

Working mom of one 22 month old daughter, 2 huskie/shepard mutts, and 1 old grumpy cat.

I work in an immunology research lab. We focus on t regulatory cells and type 1 diabetes.

I live in the metro DC area, but dream about the benefits of a quaint small town life. It would be great to walk/bike to work and to be able to spent time with my daughter during lunch.

Can totally see myself cruising a coastline in a robin egg blue convertible karmann ghia. With big sunglasses on and a scarf blowing in the wind.

I enjoy the outdoors (ie. hiking, canoeing, gardening.. etc). I love to travel and learn about other cultures. Pre-parenthood I use to spend way too much time playing and coaching young kids volleyball.

My husband and I are slowly renovating a 1935 Sears & Roebuck Catalog home. It is a small bungalow and we are at the idea collecting phase. So any design folks out there ship your thoughts and ideas or magazine pictures. I love the look and feel of the craftman style as well as the organic nature of Frank Llyod Wright designs.

Favorite Books

I LOVE to read all sorts of books. I usually go through cycles with topics. Lately I have been reading a lot of fiction and non-fiction all based on Sudan and other parts of Africa. One of my favorites from this current grouping is 'They Poured Fire on Us From the Sky' . It will bring you to tears but reminded me that I can survive just about anything if I chose so.

Just finished reading "The Girl Who Played with Fire" , book 2 in Steig Larson's Millennium triolgoy. Waiting for the last book to come out in paperback. Lisbeth Sanders is an intriguing character. I'm disappointed that Steig is not around to continue with her story.

The only books I don't read are fantasy and romance. I'm always looking for new reads and sometime need to be pushed out of a rut, so feel free to make recommendations.

Favorite Television

I don't have much time for tv but was addicted to Lost and miss my weekly dose. Other programs that will stop me surfing are House, Bones, Two and half Men, Supernatural and Modern Family.

Favorite Crafts

I have never been a crafty person and envy those that have the talent and skills. I have the desire but never know where to start. Some things that I find I go back to are decorating tags, making envelopes and sometimes a matchbox or two. I enjoy wrapping packages with lace, ribbon and adding unusual gift tags and charms. I've dabbled with making greeting cards.

wish list

I enjoy being surprised, and am open to being introduced to others passions. Maybe even include a small note explaining why you made that choice. For those that need a starting point I have included a simple wishlist.

pocket size notebooks (memo pads?)

gift tags (vintage, foreign or unique)

soaps (lilac, lavander, lemon verbena)

candles (same scents as soaps)

pet toys

pet treats (I love my big boys)

favorite recipes (baked goods or side dishes)

organizational things (labels, tags, boxes,etc)

things to embellish packages

ribbons & lace

vintage buttons

deco tape

any thing from cavallini & co

blank address labels (to be used with my homemade envelopes)

rub-ons

favorite tea: sweet spiced teas

I love making my own envelopes. If you have any interesting/fun magazine or catalog covers (Land of Nod has fantastic covers) do send them my way. :)

Postcards: some of my favorites are nature scenes (waterfalls, sunsets, etc); art deco inspired graphics or structures; vintage inspired children story illustrations. Will enjoy your homemade pc if you enjoyed making it.

I'm always on the lookout for fun gardening gloves (I seem to always be misplacing them) and unique bead lanyards for my work ID badge (I call it my work jewlery);

if anyone is interested in a private spouse surprise swap, PM me. He has been grumping about how there is never anything in the mail for him

For my hubby and better half :

Coffee, Chessie train stuff, fly fishing stuff, fountain pens, quirky t-shirts (XXL) and old maps & globes stuff. He likes mint & dark chocholate, butter rum, peanut butter & cashews, spicy things (especially mustard)

Things I don't desire

will update this once they come to me...

religious items

spicy flavors

goth

the smell of cigarette smoke

earrings - my ears are not pierced

not a huge fan of hello kitty or kawaii

Flakers ... this past fall I seem to have been a magnet for being flaked on.

Favorite Movies

Monty Python (Search for the Holy Grail; Meaning of Life; Life of Brian...) These are always great for when I need to step back from the Land of OZ (DC area)

V for Vendetta ... everyone needs a little VT movie once in awhile

Things that make me smile

dragonflies

Fairies

my daugher's giggle

cartoonish aliens

a good joke

flowers

Hello Maglet, thanks a lot for the unexpected swap Atropos gave me yesterday. Just drank a nice cup of oolong. Furthermore I can just refer to Atropos's comment: I loved it, especially the wonderful envies and postcards. Thank you very much.

Greetings Khazzar

Yes, I know where Covert is! haha How funny to find someone so close on the internet. haha Do you still live in that area?

USAFwife on Mar 28, 2011:

Back in the late 80's and 90's, I had LOTS of pen pals, many in Chicago. At that age, I lived in Michigan (a teeny tiny town called Coloma). That was sooooo long ago! haha!

brittanyukulele on Feb 23, 2011:

Hi Margaret! I meant to tell you that if you want to be pen pals or anything let me know! :)
