Married without children, working part-time and also doing part-time study, I don't have enough time to do all the things I would like to do and am interested in. But I suppose it is just about setting priorities, so I am forever prioritising. Unfortunately, the housework often draws the shortest straw.
I live in the beautiful Barossa Valley wine region of South Australia and am so glad that life brought me here. It is very different from where I grew up in Germany.
The things I try to find time for are reading, photography, writing letters, baking and different types of crafts.
I used to spend a lot of time knitting and cross stitching, but I haven't been a very active knitter/stitcher for the past few years. I also tried beading and making jewellery, which I enjoyed a lot.
I love anything connected to snail mail, letter writing and postcards. I also enjoy stamps although I wouldn't call myself a serious collector. But I am always happy when snail mail comes with a beautiful stamp on it. I am hopeless at email. I just spend so much time in front of a computer at work that I don't want to have to do it in my spare time as well. And emails do get lost in all the other rubbish that comes to my inbox. But I think email and the internet is great for researching, shopping, learning about things and keeping up to date with what is going on. So I wouldn't want to live without it.
I mail my swaps on time, and in the rare event that I don't/can't, I will communicate with you beforehand. I mark my swaps sent once I have dropped them at the postoffice or in the mail box. However, I live in a country area and find that the term 'snail mail' does not accurately describe the lethargic pace of our postal system.
Cardmaking and creating ATC's are my latest addiction. I like stamping and working with watercolours, although I am by no means a talented painter. I enjoy playing around a bit, and often the result is a little underwhelming. But occasionally I'm quite pleased with how things turn out.
I have also been curious about art journaling and enjoy doing a page or page spread now and again, although I haven't had enough time devoted to it recently.
I love black & white and vintage postcards and photos, and while I have collected those that I came across and could lay my hands on, I have not used them in any of my projects, yet. But the plan to display them in some kind of form is there, in the back of my mind.
I also like Art Deco and Art Nouveau design and elements - another one of my latest obsessions. It's great that certain things are either timeless or seem to making a come back now and then.
When previously asked, I would say that my favourite colour is yellow. However, it really depends on what the colour is for. I love purples, blues, turquoise and even bright pink, orange and red when I'm crafting, as well as the more muted tones.
As I love lists and challenges, I am still reading my way through all of Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot novels in the order of their publication. I am almost at the end of it. It has taken some time as I like to break up the routine a bit, and my reading energy has slowed down a little.
Books are great and I will give many genres a go if the topic or synopsis can catch my attention. Some of my favourite books I can think of are Thomas Mann's 'Buddenbrooks', Daniel Kehlmann's 'Measuring the World' (which also happens to be a great movie) and Markus Zusak's 'The Book Thief'. I was also captivated by 'All the light we cannot see' by Anthony Doerr.
Living in a country area, I don't get to go to the movies as often as I used to. Apart from the movie adaptations of the books mentioned above, I also don't mind watching animated movies (children's movies, in other words). The Minions were great.
What else? The Guard, In Bruges, Going Postal, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, A Film With Me In It... (I like a good laugh)
Please do not send any food, plant material (tea, bark, seeds) or animal products (feathers, fur, bone) as they may not make it through customs and quarantine inspection.
