About Me

Swaps πŸ’Œ If you haven't received a swap from me in a reasonable amount of time, please contact me. I know USPS can and have made a lot of mistakes. I will gladly resend.😁 I have had a half-eaten envelope returned to me! So, it is not an infallible system!

Hi! My name is Julia!!!!!

I’ve lived in Michigan my whole life and love it because of the four seasons it has. I have previously worked on a diverse vegetable farm, so I loved being able to time the season by what crops were ready. Some of my favorite vegetables are potatoes, asparagus, and broccoli. This season, I am so excited to U-pick most of the local fruit. So far I have harvested a bunch of strawberries, and plan to U-pick raspberries, blueberries, cherries, and apples! I have already baked a strawberry rhubarb pie from scratch and am excited about the many fruit possibilities! I adore being outside in all seasons. Farming has helped me appreciate working in all types of weather and teaching me to cook with the freshest ingredients. Right now I am currently (dying) waiting for tomato season. Some of my friends think I’m weird because I love heirloom tomatoes so much that I can eat them like apples. Most of the time when I buy cherry tomatoes at the farmers market, they do not make it home!

From above, I’m sure that you can tell I enjoy being outside, but that also includes hiking, camping, biking, and swimming. That being said, even though I do all these outside activities you can never find me without a book. I love reading fantasy and sci-fi. I am a part of 2 library systems within the city that I live in and usually have 10+ books checked out at a time. My to-read is ever growing, but I am always excited to get recommendations and to hear about what everyone else is reading! So far I have already read 51 books this year and I am hoping to reach my goal of 100 by the end of December.

I started sending postcards through post crossings, but my friend recommended this platform so I’d thought would give it a try! Some of my favorite postcards I have received are those with animals, (I learned about the Echidna from an Australian writer), flowers, landmarks, and cute stickers! Being a postcard writer has fed my obsession for being able to buy cute stickers! Now whenever I go into a store I am always on the lookout for cute ones!

I don't want to micromanage what people send to me, because the act of getting mail makes me happy, so I will include a general likes section below.

Likes: plants, sewing, painting, reading, quotes, nature, animals (turtles!!), tomatoes, flowers, herbs, cats, candles, books, libraries, quilts, my bed, and water.

I am open to BOTH handmade and Store-bought PC!!!

I’m looking forward to swapping with you all! -Julia

Comment: Thank you for the nice card, Julia! Immensely amused by "Punkin Patch"! πŸ˜† And that's a lovely tradition! I don't have one transition activity, rather it is usually something related to reflecting on death (and thus life), ancestry and cycles. πŸ‚πŸ–€ But for a more tangible answer, I do gather and press leaves sometimes, and I like to cook tasty pumpkin meals. This year it was baked pumpkin with goat cheese, walnuts, rosemary... Soooo good. 🧑 As for apples - I haven't found a reliable apple yet! The texture is often an issue for me. I don't like it when they're "mushy"/"sandy" etc. I don't like them super sour, but I don't like them as sweet as candy either. Hahaha! So since the quality varies, I usually just go for whatever is the cheapest option, and that's often just fine. 😊 Thanks again!

Comment: Thank you for the card. Texas has 2 seasons...summer and winter. Spring and fall just sort of go by without much notice. Keep a smile on your face. Jim

Comment: Hi Julia, Thank you for your beautiful postcard! My favorite holiday is Christmas. In Holland we also have Sinterklaas (December 5th) but my kids are teens so a bit too old to celebrate it. Did you know Christmas is 2 days in Holland? We have 1st Christmas Day and 2nd Christmas Day. What load of Dutchies do is split the days to visit both parents, one day the parents and the other the inlaws. And gourmetten is a real holiday tradition. A stone grill in the middle of the table and everybody makes their own food (mini meat cuts, fish, veggies). What's your favorite? Enjoy the holidays!!

Comment: Thank you for the beautiful postcard! I am actually really looking forward to the holidays this year. I am happy about that because I wasn't in that same mindset last year! Halloween is my favorite but I really just love Oct-Dec with all of the decorations, etc.

Comment: Thanks for the card! I celebrate fall by volunteering around town - it's a good time to remove invasive plants because they stop growing. Spring is probably my favorite season though - what's yours?
