Description:

I love the idea of a whimsey jar swap and wanted to be inclusive to everyone. I decided to go with a Whimsey box swap. Less weight for postage costs and less likely to break. My idea for the box is a 4x6 or 5x7. These can be found at most dollar stores. Be creative - decorate your box, wrap it and fill it. I love trinkets and crafty items. I decided to go woth a RED theme because honestly I love red! Feel free to use all shades of red or mixed colours with the primary colour red. (red and black, red and white) Lots of Valentines stuff out so take advantage of the sales!

This is my first attempt at organizing a swap so if it goes well I will use different colours or themes.

I borrowed this list from a jar swap but it is not exhaustive, only suggestions. You MUST place at least 15 items in the box.

A writing utensil (a pen, a pencil, a sharpie--regular sized or mini--etc.) .

1 hi-liter(regular sized or mini)

A game piece (Scrabble tile, a die etc.)

Something new

Something used

1 medium sized rubber stamp or 2 small rubber stamps (may be new or gently used)

1 small ink pad

5 lengths of ribbon (all must be at least 12" in length and all 5 must be different)

1 new in package small tin of mints (think mini sized altoids)

5 individually wrapped pieces of candy (if you have any allergies please list in comment section)

1 small profile surprise

1 glitter type item

1 spring related item

Something flower (it can be something like a silk flower or something with a flower on it)

Beads (1 small package=1 Item.)

Buttons (10 buttons=1 item--can be all one color or different)

2 packets individual drinks (Crystal lite, coffee, tea etc)

Paper embellishments

Stickers

Punches

trinkets

notepads

Vending machine items

gumballs

soap

lotion

bath bombs

Newbies are welcome, but no unexplained 3 or 1's.
Items are senders choice except where noted (ie candy if allergies are listed). Even though this is senders choice, do a quick profile check to see if your partner will actually like(hopefully at least) all the things you decide to include.

USA and Canada only due to shipping costs. (comparable)

All welcome with a 4.9+ ratings. Newbies welcome with a well filled out profile. No recent 1's or 3's (within last 6 months) I reserve the right to ban anyone who may seem iffy. Normal rating paramaters apply.

THANKS FOR PARTICIPATING - NO FLAKERS PLEASE!

What a fun idea! I, too, love Whimsy jars, and RED!!! (A natural redhead, with a red sports car!!!)

Thanks for creating!

Is it okay if I make my own box out of deco tape? If it doesn't turn out right, because I've never made one, I will buy a box.

carileigh 01/22/2012 #

I am unable to find a box like you described but found this cute predecorated cookie box. Is this OK? Its 6 3/8"X3"X3 1/2"... and can it be mostly Valentine's related things that are red?

GrammaSherry 01/24/2012 #

@art3osb - absolutely. @carileigh - no problem.

I choose to do boxes because I thought it would be easier/cheaper to wrap and mail. Be Creative with your red items. I want my first swap to be fun for the sender and the receiver.

Awesome. I'm making a 5x7 but how tall should it be? I was thinking "2" to "3" deep. I'm hoping it fits in the $5.35 flat rate box.

GrammaSherry 01/24/2012 #

@art3osb - I would suggest you buy or get the box you will use to ship in and then decide. I would hate for you to make a 3" and discover the box is 2.75" - I would love a handmade box!

I love this idea, can't wait to get going on it....already have a stash of read......

I made the box yesterday and love how it turned out so I will be using it. I have another question. I've gotten some items off of the list already. Going to get the rest when we are assigned. What if everything doesn't fit into the box? I made a 5x7x2 1/2 box and I'm afraid all stuff won't fit in it. I'm hoping it will though. I'm having a blast with this project:)

art3osb 01/29/2012 #

@GrammSherry Maybe I will get you:) I just hope whoever I get will like it as much as I do:)

GrammaSherry 01/29/2012 #

@art3osb - the box I needed to buy is more like 6 X 8 and probably could have used a bigger one! I need to figure out how to decorate it now. Hmmmmm pastels for the next color box..........

piratecaptainmo 02/ 1/2012 #

Once the box is decorated do we address the outside and mail it like that, or do we have to wrap it again? I've never done a whimsy swap before and I've been having lots of fun gathering things already.

GrammaSherry 02/ 2/2012 #

@piratecaptainmo - I would check with your mail service. My plan is to wrap it again with plain brown paper.
