Minizine Swap!

I've been waiting for a zine swap! Awesome :D

I was too! I checked the Zines tag pretty much every day ... so I just decided to make my own :) & there's definitely more where this came from.

I would love to join this swap but have no idea what to make the content of the zine about. :x any ideas?

Hesitating over whether to join as I've been disappointed by at least one partner in every public zine swap I've joined so far. Been getting quite a few uninspired, handwriting-only, low-on-effort "zines". :o( Still watching this one, though!

@royalshyness I know, I've received bad ones too :( It's a sad fact that some people on this site don't put effort in, but I'm willing to take the chance for now. There is the Zines, Mail Art, and Other Cool Stuff Group if you're looking for something higher-quality (and we can always swap privately if you want!).

@hislovecaptivates Anything you want, really! An easy place to start is to use a narrow topic (especially for minizines) like "things i've set on fire" or "the life story of my pets" or "awful jobs i've had". Zines are best when they have good drawings/design/illustrations and/or really captivating stories. So it's better to go in-depth about a small thing than to do an overview of the world. Does that help?

Yes it totally does help! I am not a big drawer but I can doodle pretty good. I want to take a chance on this but don't want to be a disappointment to anyone.

Well I have the honor of having one of @eudoxia zines.. and it was outstanding..!.. But I do understand how some swaps can be disappointing.. I was recently in a swap in which "all" people involved had problems.. including the coordinator... You just never know.. but I've also been in some swaps that were great,,, beyond what I expected.. Topic.. basically just write about what you know. love, think about, feel. want, desire, dream about... etc..

@hislovecaptivates I'm not disappointed by drawings that aren't "nice" or "professional" looking. As long as it's genuine and sincere, I appreciate looking at my partners' work and learning about others. I only get annoyed when it's evident people haven't put any effort into making the zine.

Just to clarify - are we expected to make 1 zine and send out copies of it to each person? I've never made a zine before so I'm not sure of the protocol. Though I'm guessing the point is that it's replicated.

You could send 3 different ones if you want! If you don't have access to a photocopier, for example, you could make 3 by hand. But it would be simpler to make just one & photocopy it - and that way, you still have the original if you want to make more copies.

So I finished my zine tonight after thinking about what to do for the whole week. I'll be posting it on flickr shortly.

What I'd really love though, is to see what everyone else came up with. Especially the more experienced zine makers.
