AMA: Mythical Matchups #2: Gryphon & Sphinx

Did a swap a while back asking ourselves to imagine a love affair between two mythical creatures ... now mythical matchups are back!

The Gryphon, or Griffin, has the head, wings, and front claws of an eagle and the body of a lion. Gryphons are said to be intelligent, graceful, and a bit conceited. A Sphinx has the head of a woman and the body of a lion. She asks riddles of unsuspecting travelers by some accounts, and eats those who do not have a well thought-out answer to her questions. This matchup seems plausible, as both creatures feature in Persian and Ancient Egyptian mythology, and later hung out with the Greeks as well. They also share in common the lion's body ...

So, how do you think a love affair between a Griffin and a Sphinx might turn out? Would there be endless romance, tragedy, adorable Sphiffin / Grynx babies? Would the theme song for this coouple be "You Can Go Your Own Way," "You're So Vain," "Happy to Be Stuck With You," or "Everlasting Love"? Would they open up a little Middle Eastern/ Mediterranean restaurant, run tours of Babylon, or have a Diggable Planets esoteric hip-hop group?

Make one piece of mail art, a zine, foldout, decorated envelope, postcard, letter containing a story with doodles, set of shadow puppets that fit in an envelope with a story to act out, et cetera, for one lucky recipient. Sit back and enjoy a job well done!
