Description:

I l-o-v-e the $1 bins at Michaels. One can find bling, stamps, ink pads, bookmarks, notecards, journals, ribbon and much, much more! For this swap, you will hit the $1 bins at Michaels (or Hobby Lobby or the craft store in your area) and select 5 items for your 1 partner. While this swap is not strictly profile specific, check your partner's profile and make sure you're not purchasing a bunch of bookmarks for a person who doesn't read. Go for variety. There's so much to choose from! Package your items and ship to your partner. Include a "hello" note with your swap name and the name of the swap. Have fun!

The rules: 10 completed mail swaps (Types 2 & 3). 4.9 rating required and a well-filled out profile. Lower ratings require explanation for ones and threes. Send me a private message.

In my area, the $1 bins have gone up to $1.50!!?! =(

Nnyla 05/ 9/2011 #

Oh no!!! I was just there Friday. I hope they're still $1 here! Inflation! Uggggghhhh!

Nnyla 05/ 9/2011 #

REMINDER: This is a USA only swap for those who have completed at least 10 mail swaps.

Im headed for Michaels on fri. it is 45 minutes from me so I dont get to go that often with the gas prices :(

joshsmama05 05/10/2011 #

Oooooh, I'm hooked on those $1 bins....my son hates going to Michaels with me (thank goodness it's just down the street and I can stop on my way to pick him up from school!) lol

hthrhere 05/11/2011 #

If they are 1.50 and we don't mind spending that is that ok or do we have to find only dollar items.

Nnyla 05/12/2011 #

$1.50 is okay. The idea is to send your partner a box of goodies (min. 5 items).

I know that Target isn't a "craft" store, but I've found some crafty items in my local Target's $1/$2 bins if this helps!

twinfreckles 05/15/2011 #

Don't forget Jo-Anns! I work there and our $1 section is awesome!!

kittenred 05/19/2011 #

aww, pity this isn't international, I've had some lovely things from michaels in my swaps, nearest we have to anywhere like that though is HobbyCraft (they have free patterns/craft guides on their website) no £1 bin though, just a £1.50 seasonal cross stitch then odd bits in the sales for £1 or less. (£1=$1.50 aprox.)

papercaper 05/19/2011 #

I wish this was international too! We have Lincraft and Spotlight here, plus other shops selling craft (and art) supplies. Most have a $1-$2 bin. Found heaps of cool items in the 99¢ bins at my local Lincraft just last week. :D Anyway, have fun, guys! (AU$1 = US$1.06)

Strawberry 05/19/2011 #

seconded - there are some great $1 items in the dollar stores here in Australia (well, $2 items at least!) - I would so have loved to join this swap! :/

ladydy5 05/19/2011 #

I think maybe sending five items becomes a little expensive postage to international swappers. We are all trying to have fun with these swaps but also with the economy it makes it a litle more of a challenge to send. Someone in the International (not USA) could start one I am sure.

Nnyla 05/19/2011 #

Thanks @ladydy5 for responding. Sending packages internationally can be a bit pricey and I don't want to ignore that. @papercaper and @Strawberry please feel free to start an international version. You know at least two are interested! :-)

To everyone else--This is not a $1 store swap, so please be sure that your items are from a craft store (fabric stores included) and not $1 stores. $1 stores here in the U.S. typically don't offer the same quality goods as the craft stores.

RadicalRecrafter 05/20/2011 #

I love the $1.00 bins at my local JoAnn Fabrics! (Ok- 2 towns away-but that's local to me!)

I'm in a Dollar store swap already,so I'll know to keep these straight. It's true-their items aren't as good quality. :(

Jester777 05/20/2011 #

Haha, ours have always always been $1.50.. I wonder if it's because I'm in Canada? I donno, I wish they were only a dollar though!

Strawberry 05/21/2011 #

No worries - I frequently send 5+ items internationally for swaps and the postage really isn't too bad as long as you watch the weight (great to invest in a set of letter scales and grab a pricing booklet from the post office - has worked wonders for me as I can push it right up to the 250g limit in the comfort of my own home and know I've sent a fabulous package).

On the subject of dollar stores - I know that this swap is items from craft stores and not dollar stores, but around here there are a bunch of dollar stores with pretty extensive craft sections ~ many of which are actually very good quality as long as you have a discerning eye/know your crafts :)

papercaper 05/21/2011 #

@Strawberry - clearly we're going to have to do a 1-on-1 swap, don't you think? I'll PM you.

P.S. Thanks, @Nnyla :D

Nnyla 05/21/2011 #

@RadicalRecrafter and @twinfreckles thanks for the Jo-Ann's tip. I never thought to check out their $$$ bins!

Strawberry 05/22/2011 #

@Nnyla have to say thanks too - I'm now doing private swaps of this with both @weeatcrayons & @papercaper May even set up a regional & international swap of this in future! :)

Sunflower107 05/25/2011 #

I went to Michael's today and yes the bins are now $1.50. ugh!

Nnyla 05/29/2011 #

Grrrrrr...I'd better hit my Michaels again today to stock up. The bins are still $1 here.
