Everyone has a pile of books they they have never opened - either unsuitable presents or you mistaken bought two of the same book! So this swap is to give away a random book that you have lying around. In response, you get a random book that you just might like. One book, one partner. If successful we'll do it again until those book stores in our filing cabinets are depleted. If you don't have any books lying around, check out your swap partner's profile and head to a bargain discount book shop and pick up something and send it away. Newbies welcome (as we were all newbies once). International mail.

@Atropos - What is this bookcrossing you speak of? I don't know what it is - sorry for ignorance! @speciallisa - Preferably new, but if they are fantastic books in great condition then that's okay. Shopping at your local second hand shop is fine.

THAT is bookcrossing. (You can also go to my profile and check my Bookcrossing account.) ItÂ´s a net work for people who want to give their books away. You register them and let them travel - give them to a friend, a stranger, lay them down in a library or on a park bench ...

BTW: Is there anyone in this swap interested in NON-ENGLISH books?

Books might me kinda heavy so sending them (especially to New Zealand) might be a little bit expensive...

@aleksis - Yes, everyone has to work out whether they want to enter an international swap. But then if you chose wisely and not send Ware and Peace then postage isn't too bad. But then again, you're free not to join if postage costs are an issue :) @Atropos - Thanks for the referral! I'll check it out for sure :)

Does everyone know that there is a special shipping rate for books and magazines? When you go to mail your package tell them you are mailing a book and the rate is a lot cheaper than mailing a regular package. I don't know if they offer it for overseas or not.

i dont think they do special book rates in England as im sure i would have heard about it, I sent 2 quite heavy magazines to America for about Â£5 so a paperback would be less than that.

A decent sized book sent Media Mail should only be about $2.

For what it's worth, Media Mail is only for within the US, and only for books and other media without advertising (so no magazines). You can't ship outside the US with this method though; First Class Mail International is the cheapest option, and the cost has gone up in recent years.
