Hi, my name is Christy. I'm 32 years old. I grew up in Santa Barbara, CA (that's California not Canada btw =P) but now i live in Los Angeles County, CA. I am a small business owner, an after school tutor at a not-for-profit, and aspiring fiction author. I also draw these weird little comics about a character called Gurm (see my profile pic) that I kind of want to start doing as a web series maybe.
I've always been a really crafty person, mostly because my mom raised me doing crafts all the time. I love paper craft and beading the most. I recently got into making exploding boxes and envelopes. I also love to cook and bake; and experiment with new recipes in the kitchen.
I've always been a fantasy/sci fi/science/book/disney/anime nerd, an anglophile and a japanophile. I loved Hello Kitty as a kid but didn't give it much thought as an adult until recently when I became totally obsessed with kawaii brands. I actually found out about Swap-Bot while looking at kawaii related videos on youtube and I'm excited to try it for myself.
Just a little etiquette related stuff: I'm a Christian and I do celebrate Christmas and Easter so I would be happy to receive anything related to those holidays. But I also celebrate Halloween so that's fine too. Although I prefer cute Halloween decorations/craft stuff as apposed to scary or gory things. And I have no food or pet related allergies so no worries there.
Just a quick overview of things that I love...
Cats, Dogs, Rabbits, pretty much all animals, Kawaii Things like San-x or Sanrio, Stationary, Stickers, Deco Tape, Journals, Paper Craft, Scrap Booking, Hand Made Cards, Books!, Miniatures, Hand Made Jewelry, Purses/Bags, Teddy Bears, Stuffed Animals, BJDs, Squishies, Chocolate!, Adventure Time, Classic Winnie the Pooh, Japanese Candy Kits, Shells, Key Chains, Kitschy Things, Art (I know that's vague but I do like a lot of different art styles), Victorian Era Things, Medieval or Renaissance Era Things, Japanese Things from any Era, Steampunk, Mid Century Modern Things
Favorite Colors: Purple, Red, Teal
Favorite Flower: Ranunculus
Favorite Food: Cheese Burgers, Sushi, BBQ Pork and Chou Mein, Pineapple, Grilled Cheese, Cucumbers, anything in a Casserole, Boba Drinks, did I mention Chocolate?
Foods I Dislike: Tomatoes, Licorice, Squash, Salmon
Other Dislikes: anything overly girly/frilly/pink (unless it's kawaii related and then maybe I'll like it), My Little Pony Friendship is Magic (I don't dislike all my little pony stuff but I kind of hate the new show and merchandise from it), most goth things, anything drug related, perfume or candles that smell like food, bling-y stuff, make up (I don't hate it, I just don't use it), military stuff (I'm just not interested in it, but I am very supportive of our troops),
I am currently pretty obsessed with kawaii stuff and that is the main reason why I'm here so I thought I would put it first. I am pretty new to this hobby and thus I don't have a lot of things to swap yet but I am building my collection. I'm mostly interested in collecting memo pads, letter sets, stickers, and plastic folders. Anyway here is a list of my favorite brands and characters....
San-x: Rilakkuma, Sumikko Gurashi, Kutsushita Nyanko, Sentimental Circus, Oyasumi Bakura, Kamono Hashikamo, Neko no Panya, Kogepan
Sanrio: Hello Kitty, Pom Pom Purin, My Melody, Little Twin Stars
Q-lia: Sweet Bitter Time, Secret Time, Delicious Obake
Crux: Kinoko no Mori Mushroom Bears, Hamu Hamu Town
Kamio: Fairy Tale World
Dream Capsule: Bunny King
Mind Wave: Bears in Holiday
I like a lot of other characters besides these but the list would be too long and maybe too obscure. And despite what other people say I like a lot of things from Daiso and I wouldn't mind getting some in a swap, especially bags and stuff to put gifts in.
Dislikes: I'm not really into photo realistic stickers/memo pads like ones with real animals or children. Except I love any that have food with faces on them.
I'm not that interested in the sticker flakes that are just pictures of antique things etc.
I really don't like the characters that mostly Crux makes that are little girls, animals, objects, etc. with huge black eyes. I don't know what else to call it.
I'm also not at all into memos or stickers, or whatever with bathroom humor or poop stuff, I just really don't get that =P.
I LOVE books and I read a lot so it's hard to really make a list of my favorites but these are the ones that really stick in my mind....
Harry Potter by JK Rowling, The Abhorsen Series by Garth Nix, Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman, His Dark Materials Series by Philip Pullman, A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket, The Giver by Lois Lowry, When You are Engulfed in Flames by David Sedaris, Assassination Vacation by Sara Vowel, Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson, The Areas of My Expertise by John Hodgman, The Ambler Warning by Robert Ludlum, In the Miso Soup by Ryu Murakami, The Restaurant at the End of the Universe by Douglas Adams, and Thief of Time by Terry Pratchet
I have pretty eclectic music tastes. Here are just some of my favorites....
Fleetwood Mac, L'Arc~en~Ciel, Mumford and Sons, Leonard Cohen, Sara Barielles, Wu Man, Ella Fitzgerald, Cat Stevens, James Taylor, Die Antwoord, Kanon AIR Piano Arrange Album Re-Feel (one of my favorite CDs), Some Country, Folk, Doo Wop, 80's, and a lot of Christian Music.
I really don't like most rap, hip hop, ska, or electronica.
This may seem weird but I think my top favorite movie of all time is Anne of Green Gables and also Anne of Avonlea. I don't know why but I could watch those movies over and over and never ever get tired of them. Other than that I like a lot of action movies, comedies, fantasy, and animated movies. Here is a short list of my top ones...
Serenity, All the Iron Man movies, Captain America, The Avengers, The new Star Trek movies, The Harry Potter movies, Safety Not Guaranteed, The Little Mermaid, The Incredibles, The Muppets Take Manhattan, and Legally Blond
I also really like to watch a lot of stand up comedy specials. My favorite comedians are Louis CK, Kathy Griffin, Jim Gaffigan, Bill Bailey, and Bo Burnham
A lot of the shows I really love are not even on any more but anyway here's a little list....
Adventure Time (this is quite possibly the best western animated show ever in my opinion), Sherlock, Game of Thrones, the West Wing, Newsradio, IT Crowd, A Bit of Fry and Laurie, Say Yes to the Dress, What Not To Wear, Firefly, Fraggle Rock, Young Justice, Law and Order, and Mythbusters
I haven't seen a ton of anime eventhough I do really like it. I still have a lot to see and I've been remedying that lately but these are my favorites so far...
Series: Revolutionary Girl Utena, InuYasha, Ouran Highschool Host Club, Case Closed, Death Note, Witch Hunter Robin, Gravitation, Yami no Matsuei
Movies: Totoro, Steamboy, Princess Mononoke, Castle in the Sky, Perfect Blue, Ghost in the Shell, Kiki's Delivery Service

I'm so happy I could help make you feel comfortable and welcome here. I'm sure you're going to have a blast swapping here--there are plenty of kind, helpful, and wonderful people to encounter! And you're already a member of Newbie Helpers, so that's a step in the right direction. I'm looking forward to receiving your swap. (I'm such a handwriting voyeur. lol)
Also, thank you for the kind words about my artwork--that brightened up my day!
Hi Christy and welcome to Swap-bot! Thanks for signing up for the Write It Loud and Proud swap. I thoroughly enjoyed reading your profile and I squealed because--InuYasha! Loved that show (and I've even taken up reading the Manga series). Anyhoozle, I won't take up too much of your profile space. Just wanted to say hello and happy swapping. :)
Welcome to Swap-bot! :-)
