About Me: I live in a northern suburb of Chicago. I’ve lived around this area most of my life, but I did move to Colorado for a short time, it was beautiful, but I missed being near family. After being home with my two boys I decided I needed a new career and so I went back to school and I earned my graduate degree in library and info science. I now work at a public library full time. When I was in school I didn’t have much time for hobbies except for journaling and paper craft because they really helped me de-stress and relax.
My Likes: I like to crochet and knit when I’m watching TV, but my passion is any type of papercraft. I have always liked having pretty papers and stationery when I was younger. I journal, scrapbook, junk journals, card making, and collage. I’ve recently started working with different inks, coloring, watercolor, and pigments. I love watching and recreating mixed media projects, there are so many great videos on YouTube. The Paper Outpost and Luise Heinzl are two of my favorites. Between craft fairs, hobby shops, second-hand stores, antiquing, and a few monthly craft box subscriptions I have been slowly growing my stashes of paper, washi tapes, stamps, and dies. I like to get and put together happy mail that includes a little of the new and the vintage.
Reading: I love to read books, my favorite genres are historical fiction, paranormal fantasy, gothic, science fiction, and thrillers. I also like historical non-fiction like Erik Larson's books. I have been on a WWII kick lately and I just finished the Splendid and the Vile which was excellent. The Secret Rooms by Catherine Bailey is also very good (although, that is WWI).
Favorite Movies and T.V.: My watching kind of follows along with my reading likes. LOTR, the Hobbit, and now I'm watching The Ring of Power. All and any Marvel, and Star Wars - including cartoons. I watched Game of Thrones while I was reading the books, I tried not to be annoying by pointing out the differences (and there are a lot), but if you did like the HBO series you should read the books it adds some extra depth. Surprisingly, I have never been able to get into Star Trek. I don't know why.
My favorite colors & things: Blues, purples, oranges, and beiges. This is the first time I’m admitting to beige and tan, but I find myself making so many projects with that color palette that it’s time I face reality. I like birds, especially owls, cats, and dogs. I love to be a little scared so I will include ghosts and gothic imagery. I don’t like horror or gory things, though. I love anything coffee-related, lattes, cappuccinos, etc. I also like tea; I mostly like black teas but really, I’ll drink most. I don’t usually like anything too fruity. Last winter someone gave me a Downton Abbey tea sampler which was good. Lady Cora’s Evening tea was my favorite. I really like to cook; I have a too large collection of cookbooks and I love to trade recipes.
